They Regretted It After I Gave Up Chapter 12

The detective wrote a few lines in his notebook.

Beckett watched the pen move, then suddenly asked, “How long will I go to prison for?”

The detective looked up at him.

“That’s not for me to decide. But here’s something for you to think about. A girl is dead. You didn’t just destroy one year of her life; you destroyed all of it. How long do you think you *should* be in prison?”

Beckett said nothing after that.

For him, it didn’t matter how many years the court gave him. The outcome was the same.

I was already dead.

A prison sentence wouldn’t bring me back.

Tessa found out the next day.

She was in class when the principal called her into the hall.

Two detectives were waiting for her.

“Are you Tessa Wells?”

“Yes.”

“Please come with us. We have some questions for you.”

The color drained from Tessa’s face.

After she got into the police car, her hands wouldn’t stop shaking.

At the station, a detective asked her, “Do you know what Beckett Santoro did to Katerina Ferraro?”

Tessa lowered her head, silent for a long time.
