They Played a Game to Make Me Beg, I Played a Game to Make Me Gone Chapter 06

Silence stretched out on the other end of the line. My words had shattered every expectation he had.

He couldn’t believe it. The obedient girl who always compromised, always turned the other cheek,

had cut him off clean. After a few seconds, he let out a cold scoff, full of arrogance.

“Fine. Go ahead and leave. I won’t stop you. But I’m going to say this right now, Natalie. You’re going to regret this. One day, you’re gonna be all alone in Milan, miserable, with no one to call

and you’ll crawl back to me. And I’ll be there when you do.”

He hung up. I didn’t hesitate. I deleted every single photo of my family and Derek from my phone

I walked out of the airport with my luggage, where the liaison was already waiting. All the

onboarding and housing paperwork went smoothly.

I moved into a brand-new apartment and settled in. The next ten years of my life would be here.

Living in Milan. Working. Putting down roots. A decade was more than enough time to scrape off

the scars of the past and build a life I could actually call my own.

But that first night, I couldn’t sleep. I’d slept the whole flight, and now I was wide awake.

My phone lit up. A text from Jessica Miller. She was a former coworker who’d been invited to the engagement party. Attached was a video from the scene.

Jessica had seen me with black eyes and knew I’d ended up in the hospital because of Savannah’s

pranks. Her text was full of vindication. [Natalie, you have guts. That scene at the party today was

absolutely insane, in the best way.]

I tapped the video. The audio from my USB drive played clear as day. It was a recording I’d made a

month ago, getting up in the middle of the night for water and overhearing my parents talking in

their bedroom.

Mom had just finished watching the prank compilation Savannah put together. She sounded

hesitant. “This is Natalie’s engagement party. Are we seriously going to let Savannah run wild?”

Dad let out a long sigh. “What choice do we have? If I hadn’t locked her father in that freezer by

accident… none of this would’ve happened. We wouldn’t have even taken her in. Every time I look at her face, I feel sick with guilt.”

“She can do whatever she wants. More than pranks. If she decided she wanted Derek? Hell, I’d find a way to slip him something myself. It’s not like she hasn’t had her eye on him forever. Honestly? Maybe it’s better if this whole engagement falls apart.”

The entire banquet hall went dead silent. Every single pair of eyes was locked on the screen.

The moment that recording played, my parents completely lost it. Their composed masks

shattered. Both of them scrambled frantically for the equipment, hands fumbling, screaming at the staff to pull the plug.

Savannah stood frozen. The smug, domineering act was gone. Her face was bone-white, her whole body trembling. She couldn’t process the fact that she wasn’t their biological daughter.

What broke her completely was the truth that her real father was indirectly killed by the same man who’d spoiled her rotten for twenty years.

Unable to accept it, she screamed at the crowd. “Don’t listen to this! Put your phones down! It’s all fake! Natalie is just trying to destroy me!”

But the more desperately she tried to cover it up, the more everyone in that room believed every

single word.

The relatives exchanged looks of disgust and shock. Derek, standing off to the side, had a face like a

thundercloud. The look he gave my parents and my sister was pure ice-like he was staring at

strangers. The moment the drugging part came out, you could see it click. He was finally seeing

who they really were.

I watched the entire video in silence. I felt no rush of vengeance. Not a flicker of sympathy either. The shame and humiliation tearing through them right now? It wasn’t even a drop in the ocean

compared to what they put me through.
