They Pawned My Health For Her Happiness. And Now I’m Dead Chapter 06

My father took one look and stumbled back, terrified.

His cloudy eyes were full of fear.

Luca didn’t see it at first.

While my parents were still in shock, he squeezed in with the Itvestreamer and looked.

One look. That’s all it took.

His face went white. Like all the life had been drained out of him.

The livestreamer went pale too.

He turned and threw up against the wall.

I stared at them. Paused.

Then I remembered what the pawnbroker had said.

I drifted inside. Stopped in front of the incubator.

I looked down.

A grotesque face stared back at me.

It was a newborn. But its face was covered in wrinkles.

Like an old man in his seventies or eighties.

Maybe it felt my presence.

It raised a hand.

Two fingers on its right hand–bent. Broken.

I quickly looked at the other hand. One finger broken on the left.

Then I looked at its feet.

Left foot–twisted completely outward.

Right foot–pinky toe fractured.

I sucked in a breath.

The baby’s condition was exactly what I’d looked like months ago-

when they pawned my health.

Abuzzing filled my ears. I was back to that night.

The voice had asked me,

“What price do you want them to pay?”

I curled up in the corner. Silent for a long time.

Until dawn crept through the window.

Then I finally spoke,

“I want them to taste every bit of what I went through.”

But I never thought it would fall on the baby.

My heart was pounding.

“He was never meant to be born.”

The hollow voice came again, just when I didn’t know what to do.

“Your death happened because of him.”

It explained.

Days before Halloween, Celine found out the baby had stopped growing.

Dead in the womb.

She panicked.

But she knew–without this child, she couldn’t keep Luca.

So she pawned my lifespan. Swappedd it for the baby to survive.

I stood there, frozen. It took me a long time to breathe again.

On the other side of the glass, my mother was wailing.

She’d turned to face the livestream. Eyes blazing.

“I’m going to find that ungrateful daughter of mine.”

“If it wasn’t for her, Celine and the baby wouldn’t be in this state!”
