They Made Me Run On a Broken Leg. Don Had My Back Chapter 05

They Made Me Run On a Broken Leg. Don Had My Back Chapter 05

He didn’t care that my blood would stain his

custom suit.

He knelt on one knee and pulled me into his arms.

Santino and Elena hurried over.

Santino’s face darkened at the sight.

But he didn’t dare snap at Don Matteo. He pulled

out a check.

“One hundred thousand.”

He tossed it.

It spun in the air and dropped into a puddle.

“Sable. You finished. Go buy your brother’s

medicine.”

Santino looked down at me.

Elena on his arm, laughing softly.

Don Matteo’s eyes went cold.

He stood. Walked to the puddle. Picked up the

check.

Took a white handkerchief from his pocket. Wiped

the dirty water off.

He placed it in my jacket pocket.

Then he turned to Santino.

“Is this how you treat your chief engineer?”

Santino couldn’t breathe under the pressure.

Sweat on his forehead.

“…Don. You misunderstood.”

“This was an art interaction between us…”

Don Matteo ignored him.

He put a card in my hand. Said low.

“The car’s outside. I’m taking you.”

He waved a bodyguard over. Had me lifted onto a

stretcher.

Santino’s face went dark. He stepped forward to

block.

“Mr. Ferrara, this is a company matter…”

Don Matteo stopped. Turned his head.

“Santino. Watch your mouth.”

“Voyage Tech’s IPO roadshow. The Ferrara family

will be paying close attention.”

Santino froze. His face paled.

He couldn’t believe a man this powerful would

protect me like this.

Five minutes later, I was in the back of a Maybach.

Heat on. Don Matteo handed me a bottle of warm

water.

“Miss Vance. Didn’t expect to meet you like this.”

I leaned back, catching my breath. Pulled the

micro SD card from my pocket.

“Don Matteo. Short Voyage Tech. Destroy

Santino.”

“I’ll give you the winning hand.”

He looked at me. His voice softer than his position

should allow,

“Okay.”

In the sterile operating room, an orthopedic

surgeon worked on my leg.

Don Matteo had brought in a top medical team.

“The break shifted, but the main vessels and

nerves weren’t damaged.”

The surgeon pulled off his mask. Wiped sweat.

“Three months of rest. You’ll walk normally again.”

In the ward, anesthesia still wearing off, I sat up

straight.

Two laptops on the table.

Don Matteo walked in with a file.

“Three hundred thousand is in the account.”

“Your brother has the best equipment. Heart correction surgery tomorrow night.”

The weight on my chest lifted.

“Thank you, Don Matteo.”

He pulled up a chair.

“Don’t thank me. This is a partnership.”

“Now. Show me your hand.”

I typed a few commands. Lines of code filled the

screen.

Voyage Tech’s orthopedic surgical robot system.

The source code.

“Santino thinks he stole a complete system.”

I pointed at a function. Smiled cold.

“But he doesn’t know. There’s a flaw in the base

logic.”

“After seventy–two continuous hours of operation, the robotic arm shifts by 0.5 millimeters.”

Don Matteo understood tech. He saw it instantly.

“In orthopedic surgery, half a millimeter is enough to sever a nerve. Cause paralysis.”

“Exactly.”

I sipped water.

“Only I can fix this flaw.”

“Santino rushed to ring the bell in Q2.”

“He hid the data. Got the IPO permit anyway.”

“The higher he climbs, the worse he falls.”

Don Matteo leaned back.

“The Ferrara family can put up five million.”

“Set up an independent lab for you. Short Voyage

Tech in the market.”

“But we still need one piece of evidence.”

“Something that makes everyone abandon

Santino.”

I closed the laptop.

“I have it ready.”

“Surgery fee is still fifteen thousand short.”

“Don Matteo. Keep it quiet.”

“This running game isn’t over yet.”
