They Erased Me, So I Rewrote My Life Chapter 40

A trace of harshness I rarely saw flashed in his usually gentle eyes.

“She’s deliberately triggering you,” he said in a low voice. “She wants to force you to lose control so she can prove everything she’s been saying is true.”

“I know,” I said. “That’s why I didn’t give her a response.”

“But it still hurt you.” He looked at me. “Didn’t it?”

I was silent.

After a few seconds, I finally spoke.

“It’s not because I’m afraid of her. It’s because… she can always find my weakest point with such precision.”

And then, once again, I slipped.

“In my last life, I was sent there. That was where I completely broke.”

The moment the words left my mouth, I regretted them.

In any normal context, a sentence like that would sound insane.

But Leo didn’t look surprised.

Or confused.

He just stepped forward and pulled me hard into his arms.

The embrace was fierce, as if he wanted to physically press the broken pieces inside me back together.

“I know, Eliza,” he said by my ear, his voice tight with a pain I didn’t understand. “I know everything.”

I froze.

Then I shoved him away.

“What do you know?”

Leo’s eyes were red.

It wasn’t with pity.

It was something deeper.

“I’ve been trying to find the right time to tell you,” he said. “But you need to know now.”

He looked at me and said, word by word, “Eliza, I was reborn, too.”
