They Erased Me, So I Rewrote My Life Chapter 24

Ethan froze. “What are you talking about? She’s locked herself in her room and won’t see anyone. She’s terrified.”

“She’s not scared. She’s waiting for the right moment.” I looked at him. “Waiting for the media to come knocking, waiting for Father’s team to package this into an inspiring story about a poor girl facing down online trolls. And I’ll once again be cast as the cold, vicious sister.”

“That’s impossible!” Ethan argued immediately. “How can you think that of her? She just needs her family to protect her.”

“Because I understand her scripts better than you do,” I said. “I’ve been her supporting character for eighteen years. I’m done.”

I walked around him and headed toward Leo.

Behind me, Ethan’s voice was low, almost a sob.

“Do you hate us that much?”

For an instant, my chest ached.

Just a little.

But compared to the memory of being thrown into that center by them in my last life, it was nothing.

One afternoon in March, Leo and I both received our admission emails from the University of Oregon.

We stood together, looking at the screens on our phones, then turned toward each other at the same time.

Leo smiled first.
