They Erased Me, So I Rewrote My Life Chapter 14

After returning from the Hernandez farm, my eighteenth birthday was fast approaching.

In my last life, that day had been the start of my downfall.

I remembered it clearly.

At the birthday party hung with gold and silver balloons, Father’s campaign manager, Max, handed me a document.

Not a birthday card.

An agreement transferring management authority over my trust fund.

“Eliza,” Father had said then, his arm around my shoulders, using the gentle voice he reserved for voters, “this is only temporary. It’s for the family’s overall financial planning, and to protect you from making immature decisions.”

I refused.

Then I was branded emotionally unstable and destructive.

That agreement was the first document they forced me to sign before sending me to Utah.

So in this life, when Ethan called me, I wasn’t surprised at all.

“Eliza, you have to come home.” His tone allowed no refusal. “Tomorrow night is your birthday party. Everyone will be there.”

“I’m not coming back.”

“How long are you going to keep this up? Father is already very unhappy. Do you really have to pick this moment to cause trouble for the family?”

“I said I’m not coming back.” My voice was flat. “I have plans.”
