They Called Me the Pack’s Curse Chapter 02

They Called Me the Pack’s Curse Chapter 02

The next morning, I took the hundred thousand dollars my father had given me as a “welcome home” gift and hired a private investigator to dig into the West Realm development project.

Our city had never been an ancient pack stronghold. For centuries, no powerful pack had ever settled here. There were no records of old burial grounds, no traces of wolves at all.

Later that day, the investigator called me back. His voice was firm, certain.

“I spoke with werewolf historians and archaeologists. There is no way there’s an ancient burial site beneath the western land. It’s just empty ground.”

Relief washed over me.

This time, my family was safe.

A few days later, during dinner in the pack house, Alpha Silas made his announcement with barely contained excitement.

“The West Realm deal is finalized. The profits are guaranteed. At least one hundred million dollars.”

He looked at me with pride, his eyes gleaming.

“When the money comes in, I’ll give seventy million to Lila and thirty million to Pearl. My daughters are equal in my eyes.”

Pearl immediately shook her head, her expression turning serious.

“No, Alpha. I’ve already taken too much from Lila. Give it all to her. I don’t need anything.”

Mother smiled warmly at both of us. Father laughed, the commanding pride of an Alpha softening into the affection of a loving parent.

Warmth filled my chest.

This time, I had protected them.

This time, the Silver Moon Pack would survive.

But the next morning, every major headline across the city exploded with the same news:

[West Realm Unearths Ancient Werewolf Burial Site. All Development Suspended Indefinitely.]

A chill ran down my spine, cold as ice water.

Why?

Why was there a burial ground in this life when there had been nothing there before?

I had ignored the warning of the Silver Moon Oracle. So why was my father still destined to lose everything? Why was the pack’s fate still spiraling toward ruin?

A scream shattered the silence from the living room.

“Father! What’s wrong?!”

I rushed in and froze.

Alpha Silas lay collapsed on the floor, coughing up blood. His wolf was unstable, his body already breaking under the shock of the news.

Mother and Pearl rushed to his side in a panic.

They carried him to the healer’s residence. Mother cried until she fainted. Pearl stayed by his side day and night, tending to him without rest.

When Alpha Silas finally returned home a few days later, he looked like a man who had aged decades overnight. His hair had turned completely white. His once powerful frame was hunched, weighed down by despair.

Yet he never blamed me. Not once.

Guilt crushed my chest like a boulder, stealing the air from my lungs.

Then the voice came again.

Cold. Hollow. Unavoidable.

[You mother will go out tomorrow to seek help from former pack allies. You must not let her leave. If she does, she will die in a car accident.]

My fists clenched so tightly my nails cut into my palms, drawing blood.

In my past life, I had stopped her from leaving.

She died of a heart attack.

This time, I would not make the same mistake.

No matter what, I was going to save her.

I knocked on her door, keeping my voice steady.

“Mom… is your heart acting up again?”

Her face was pale, but she forced a smile and shook her head.

“I’m fine, sweetheart. Don’t worry about me… cough… what matters is paying off the pack’s debts. Our territory is already mortgaged to the Black Thorn Pack. I’m worried about you and Pearl. If we lose everything… what will happen to you?”

She took my hand, her eyes filling with tears, her voice trembling.

“Lila, I’m so sorry. We brought you back only to make you suffer, to watch everything fall apart. You deserve a better life.”

My eyes burned. My voice caught in my throat.

“Don’t say that, Mom. As long as I’m with you… with all of you… that’s enough. I won’t let anything happen to you. I promise.”

I pulled out my phone and called the pack hospital emergency line.

If the Oracle said she would die in a car accident tomorrow, then I would get her to a healer tonight.

No car. No accident. No heart attack.

She insisted she was fine and didn’t need a healer.

But I didn’t back down.

“Mom, your health comes first. The pack’s debts can wait. I… I have a boyfriend. Damon. He’s the Alpha heir of the Black Thorn Pack. He’ll help us. You just need to focus on getting better.”

Tears of relief and gratitude filled her eyes as she pulled me into a tight embrace.

“Lila… my sweet girl. My miracle. Bringing you home was the greatest gift I could have ever asked for…”

Just to be safe, I insisted on riding in the ambulance with her.

The entire drive, my nerves were stretched to the breaking point. My palms were slick with sweat as I listened for anything, any sign of danger.

But nothing happened.

The pack hospital came into view, lights blazing in the distance.

I let out a long breath. My heartbeat finally began to settle.

Then it happened.

A deafening crash exploded through the vehicle.

The world spun violently. Glass shattered everywhere. The air filled with the sharp scent of blood and twisted metal.

The accident still happened.

As my consciousness slipped away, only one thought echoed in my mind.

Why?

Why did it still happen?
