Bang, bang, one after another.

“Miss, are you in there?”

Everyone looked toward the entrance in horror.

My eyes lit up instantly.

They were the undercover agents Rhett had planted in Havenport—they were here!

I struggled desperately to break free from the bodyguard’s grip and shouted at the top of my lungs toward the main gate.

“I’m here!”

I felt a surge of joy and shouted at the top of my lungs.

“I’m here! Save Evan! Hurry, save him!”

Jewel’s expression changed, and she immediately looked even more contemptuous.

“So your sugar daddy actually has some backbone—he really showed up?”

She smoothed out the wrinkled hem of her skirt and let out a series of cold laughs.

“Just a bunch of shady thugs—and they actually dare to come and ruin the party for the Kensington family?”

“They’re asking for trouble!”

She picked up the walkie-talkie and spoke in a low voice.

“Security team! Riot squad! Everyone, get out there!”

“Beat the hell out of those thugs out there! Break their legs!”

“Initiate Level 1 lockdown procedures. Lock down all electromagnetic doors!”

“Not even a single fly is going to get in today!”

At her command, the metal roll-up doors surrounding the banquet hall slammed shut.

They completely blocked out all outside noise.

The heavy mahogany door was securely fastened with several steel chains.

The faint sounds of a struggle and the door being kicked in gradually grew fainter.

The hope I had just begun to feel was ruthlessly shattered by that door.

“No! Open the door! Open the door!”

I rushed toward the gate like a woman possessed and pounded frantically on the roll-up door with my fists.

The skin on my knuckles was raw and bleeding, but I didn’t feel any pain.

“Evan can’t wait any longer!”

“Open the door!”

Jewel walked up behind me, grabbed me by the collar, and threw me to the ground.

“Scream! Keep screaming!”

She looked down on me with condescending satisfaction as I wallowed in despair.

“Did you see that?”

“Is this your backup? A bit weak, isn’t it?”

“In Havenport, if I don’t want someone coming in, even Jesus would have to kneel outside for me!”

She pointed at Evan, who was lying on the ground, half-conscious.

“He’s about to die, isn’t he?”

“It’s all your fault!”

“If you’d just admitted earlier that you were a mistress and knelt down to apologize, how could he have gone through all this suffering?”

“The door’s locked now—it’s no use getting down on your knees!”

As I looked at Evan’s purple lips, tears welled up in my eyes.

I’d never hated anyone that much.

Even when I used to run into those snobby socialites in New York, I just laughed it off.

Because I had four older brothers and sisters to look out for me.

I didn’t need to fight for anything, nor did I need to scramble for it.

I just wanted to be happy and live my life as my little princess.

But now Evan, who meant the most to me, was about to die right in front of me.

And there was nothing I could do.

“Jewel…”

I stared at her intently, my voice extremely hoarse.

“If anything happens to him today, I’ll make the entire Kensington family pay with their lives.”

Jewel burst out laughing.

“Oh my, I’m so scared.”

Just then, the butler strode in.

He looked a little flustered and whispered something in Jewel’s ear.

Jewel’s eyes lit up.

“Is Ryan here?”

Hearing that name, a glimmer of hope kindled in my heart.

As long as he stepped forward to set the record straight, proving that I didn’t know him and that the person in the photo wasn’t me—

Then the misunderstanding would be cleared up!

Evan could go to the hospital!

“Ryan!”

Jewel immediately stepped forward, her eyes slightly red.

“Just look at this woman—she actually had the nerve to show up at my dinner party and cause a scene!”

“She even brought some idiot along to annoy me!”

Ryan Kensington’s gaze swept across the room and finally settled on me.

I forced myself to stand up and pointed at the photo on the big screen.

“Mr. Kensington!”

“Hurry up and tell her I don’t even know you!”

“That’s not me in the photo!”
