They Called Me a Submarine. On Bid Day, I Stunned Them All Chapter 04

On Bid Day, I slept until noon.

My phone was flooded with unread messages.

The group was discussing tonight’s envelope—

getting into a sorority was a big deal for a lot of girls.

It meant you were wanted.

Someone asked on purpose: “Is Allie doing Sorority Rush?”

“LOL. You mean Plus-Size Sorority Rush?”

Justin was in the chat too.

“She’s not coming. Drop it.”

Rachel: “What if she does show up? Promise me you won’t make fun of her.”

The more she tried to calm things down, the harder everyone laughed.

I didn’t reply. I got up and got ready.

Eiza showed up at 2 PM with two makeup cases.

“You’re going to stun them all today. I’m giving you a killer look.”

I sat in front of the mirror. “What’s a killer look?”

“Justin’s going to drop dead the second he sees you.”

She curled my hair, then pulled out a pink slip dress from my closet.

Thin, form-fitting—it showed every curve.

When I walked out, Eiza stared for a full thirty seconds.

Then she clutched her chest.

“I’m done.”

“What?”

“If I were a guy, I’d be on my knees right now.”

I laughed. She spun me around, getting more excited.

“Rachel? She’s not even in your league.”

“When she sees you, she’s gonna run off to get lip fillers.”

“You’re brutal.”

“I’m just telling the truth.”

At 5 PM, someone posted a video from the venue.

A table was set up at the entrance.

A cake sat on it. Red frosting spelled out:

Welcome, 200-Pound Goddess

Laughter echoed around it.

A guy with a buzzcut yelled into the camera:

“Allie, if you don’t show up, we’re doing your couple challenge for you!”

Justin was sitting on the couch.

He glanced at the camera and scoffed.

“Told you. She doesn’t have the guts.”

“She wouldn’t even video call before. You really think she’d show up in person?”

Rachel nudged him playfully. “Don’t say that.”

“She likes you, doesn’t she?”

I closed the video.

Eiza grabbed her keys.

“Let’s go. I’m not stopping until their faces are swollen.”

Just then, a friend request popped up.

The message had one words:

Finn.

I accepted.

He messaged right away: Sorry.

This whole thing started because of a game I was in.

I’ll handle it. Need me to pick you up?

I stared at the apology.

He already felt different from the rest.

I’m already on my way. And I’ll do the tasks tonight.

He typed for a while. Then:

Don’t force yourself.

Half an hour later, we pulled up to the school.

Eiza got a call from her mom and had to leave.

She grabbed my hand before she went.

“Call me if anything happens. Anyone touches you, I’ll end them.”

I nodded and got out.

As I walked in, people stared.

Some were from the group—standing by the cake table.

“It’s 6. She’s not coming.”

“Justin’s about to cash out.”

“Told you. At that size, she probably can’t even leave the house.”

“Finn didn’t show either. Guess he got scared off.”

Then Justin’s voice, casual and cold: “I told her not to come.”

“She lives in her own fantasy online. In person? That’s just public execution.”

Rachel laughed softly. “She probably wasn’t trying to lie.”

“Maybe she just wanted to be liked.”

I was about to step forward when a deep voice came from behind me.

“Allie?”

I turned.

Under the hallway lights stood a tall guy in a black shirt.

Sharp features. Cold eyes.

When he saw me, his composure cracked.

“Are you…?”

I smiled. “Finn?”

Near the cake table, someone started a countdown.

“Ten seconds! She’s not coming—close the bet!”

“Ten!”

“Nine!”

“Eight!”

Finn was still staring at me.

I turned back toward the crowd—watching them celebrate.

Right before the countdown hit zero,

I walked forward, envelope in hand.
