The editing alone must have taken hours.

Hatred this meticulous is almost admirable.

The post shifted public opinion again.

Eden posted a photo from the hospital-her wrist wrapped in bandages.

She said she was suffering from online bullying.

She was too scared to come back to school.

In the comments, people turned on me.

Said I used Nate to bully Eden.

Said I was forcing her out of school.

Mrs. Smith called me in, “Eden is emotionally unstable.”

“Just clarify that the recording is real and that it was said in anger.”

I looked at her, “The recording is fake.”

“But what if something happens to her if she gets more stressed?”

I laughed, “Yesterday, when I was locked up and couldn’t breathe, did you ask what might happen to me?”

Her face stiffened, “Those are two different things.”

Clearly, Eden was the one with real backing.

I refused to clarify.

That afternoon, the school held a public disciplinary hearing.

Eden arrived with her mother.

Pale. Needing help to walk.

But I had seen her crouching by the flower bed, reapplying blush before coming in.

She admitted to taking photos and posting them.

But she insisted everything was a misunderstanding.

As for the recording, she said an anonymous account sent it to her.

“I don’t know if it’s real or not. But Zoe kept threatening me.”

“She said that since Nate is her brother, no one at school would dare punish her.”

I couldn’t help asking, “When did I say that?”

She wiped her tears, “In private.”

“Can anyone confirm that?”

“No one else was there.”

Technology, however, had other plans.

The tech team quickly confirmed seventeen separate edits in the recording.

The device used to post it was logged in to Eden’s tablet.

The last trace of color drained from Eden’s face.

Mrs. Vance tried to speak, but Evan cut in with a cold laugh,

“Stop lying. That account was Eden’s alt.”

“She used it to spread rumors about other girls who got close to Nate.”

He handed over a backup of their chat history.

It wasn’t just me.

A junior who had passed Nate a letter was accused of dating three guys at once.

A girl seated next to him was filmed and labeled a flirt.

Eden had done this before.

The only difference? They didn’t have a heartthrob brother.

Students in the room lowered their heads.

Many had commented under her posts, attacking me and others.

They hadn’t known they were being used.

The disciplinary committee announced its decision:

Eden was given a major demerit.

All her award eligibility was revoked.

Evan lost his student council position and was held accountable for his actions.

Mrs. Smith was suspended pending investigation.

Mrs. Vance’s expression twisted, “Eden is applying to colleges abroad.”

“A mark like this will ruin her future!”

I looked at her calmly, “And? She has a future, so I deserved to be locked up?”

Eden suddenly rushed to Nate, “I did all of this because I liked you.”

“If Zoe hadn’t been in the way, would you have considered me?”

Nate paused for two seconds, “No.”

“Why?”

“Because I like kind people.”

Simple. Direct. No room left for self-pity.

I couldn’t help myself. I lowered my head and smiled.

Eden turned on me, “Are you happy now? You took Nate and ruined everything I had!”

I said, “One: he’s my brother, not a clearance sale item.”

“Two: you ruined yourself.”

“Three-my phone, medical expenses, and house keys-pay up.”
