They Called Me a Gold Digger, So I Dethroned Them All Chapter 09

Stellan closed the folder with a cold expression and rose to his feet, looking down at Hollis, whose

ace had gone deathly pale.

“Redgrave Industries is suspected of serious financial misconduct. Arkwright Group will not be

moving forward with this partnership, and we reserve the right to report these violations to the appropriate regulatory authorities.”

“Meeting adjourned.”

Hollis staggered backward, knocking over the leather chair behind him with a heavy crash.

He looked at me, his eyes finally showing a level of panic and despair I’d never seen before.

“Blythe… do you really have to go this far?”

Late that night, the underground parking garage was cold and damp.

I’d barely stepped out of the elevator when a dark figure suddenly rushed out from behind a pillar.

Hollis grabbed my wrist. His eyes were bloodshot, and the smell of alcohol hung heavily around

him.

“Blythe Wetherell, withdraw that report! I’m begging you!”

In the six years I’d known him, I’d never seen him look so wretched.

His expensive tailored suit was badly wrinkled, his costly tie hung crooked, and his bloodshot eyes

were filled with desperation.

I pulled my wrist free and took two steps back, my expression cold.

“Mr. Redgrave, watch yourself. There are security cameras here.”

Hollis let out a bitter laugh before dropping to one knee with a heavy thud, reaching for the hem of my skirt.

“Blythe, I was wrong. I know I was wrong.”

“Without you, our PR department can’t contain all the negative press. The board is threatening to

remove me as CEO!”

“And Maisie doesn’t know the first thing about business! She posted our internal financial records online to complain about how poor she is. Now everyone in Vellmont’s high society is laughing at me!”

I watched him grovel, feeling nothing but disgust.

“Wasn’t Maisie supposed to be so pure and down–to–earth? Didn’t you love how innocent se was

about the real world?”

“Now your sweet little princess has aired all your dirty laundry, and suddenly you’re not so happy

about it?”

Hollis slapped himself hard across the face, his voice choking with emotion.

“I was blind! I thought you loved me too much to ever leave, so I figured I could keep trampling all

over your pride!”

“I thought the designer labels and glamorous parties were just your way of showing off. I never realized how hard you’d fought to build a place for yourself in that world!”

“Blythe, please come back to me. If you do, you’ll always be Mrs. Redgrave. I’ll transfer every share I own into your name!”

Footsteps sounded behind me.

Stellan approached, followed by several bodyguards. They immediately stepped forward and pinned Hollis firmly to the ground.

Stellan took off his coat and gently draped it over my shoulders. Then he looked down at Hollis, who lay there looking utterly pathetic.

“Hollis, there’s something you clearly don’t understand.”

His eyes were filled with icy contempt.

“Blythe isn’t anyone’s possession. She’s a queen who can hold her own against anyone in the

business world.”

“That title you’re so generously offering her, Mrs. Redgrave? To her, it’s nothing more than a

cheap accessory that’s lost its value.”

Hollis slumped against the ground, staring at Stellan and me standing side by side. Tears finally spilled down his face.

He’d once possessed the most dazzling jewel imaginable, only to shatter it with his own hands and

trade it for a worthless stone.

slipped my arm through Stellan’s and turned toward the Rolls–Royce without giving Hollis one

last glance.

Behind me, his anguished cries rang out.

“Blythe! Please, just look at me! Blythe!”

The car window rolled up, shutting out his desperate pleas for good.
