They Called Me a Gold Digger, So I Dethroned Them All Chapter 06

I let out a soft laugh and pulled Stellan’s suit jacket more tightly around my shoulders, my usual Composure and confidence returning.

“We both have something to gain, Mr. Arkwright. You’ve just returned from overseas, and you’re looking to break into the northern energy market. As it happens, I have the due diligence workpapers for every investment the Redgrave family has made over the past three years.

Stellan raised an eyebrow, a flicker of interest appearing in his eyes.

“Ms. Wetherell, aren’t you supposed to be Vellmont’s favorite pretty face who knows nothing about business beyond buying designer handbags?”

I carefully folded the towel and handed it back to his executive assistant, a cool smile playing on my lips.

“In this world, men get wary of women who look too smart. Play the part of a trophy girlfriend who only cares about money and status, and suddenly, you get access to their most confidential

financial records.”

“Hollis thinks I’ve been after him and the Redgrave name all these years. What I really wanted was the access that came with being by his side.”

The car came to a smooth stop outside my private apartment building.

I opened the door, then turned back to Stellan before getting out.

“Mr. Arkwright, you’ll have my business proposal in your personal inbox by nine tomorrow morning.”

Stellan studied me for a moment, and a faint smile finally reached his dark eyes.

“See you tomorrow, Blythe Wetherell.”

At eight the next morning, my doorbell rang so insistently it nearly shook the apartment.

I opened the door in my silk robe, holding a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

Hollis stood outside, his eyes bloodshot and his tie slightly loosened. He clearly hadn’t slept all

night.

His assistant stood behind him, carrying more than a dozen orange Hermès shopping bags of various sizes, which were piled up in the hallway.

Blythe, enough of this. Come home with me.”

Hollis took a deep breath, struggling to keep his voice gentle and composed, though his fingertips were trembling.

I leaned against the doorframe and took a sip of coffee without even looking up.

“Mr. Redgrave, what brings you to my doorstep at this hour with a pile of garbage?”

Hollis frowned and gestured toward the bags on the floor, as though he were offering me some

enormous payoff to keep quiet.

“I know you were humiliated last night. I’ve brought you every limited–edition Hermès piece from this season, including the Himalayan Birkin you’ve always wanted.”

“Maisie’s young and doesn’t know any better. I’ve already spoken to her. Put out a statement clearing up what happened with Stellan last night, and we can get married right away.”

I burst out laughing so hard that tears nearly came to my eyes.

“Hollis, has playing Prince Charming to your little princess finally gone to your head?”

His expression changed instantly, his voice turning cold.

“Blythe Wetherell, watch your mouth! I’m giving you a chance to save face.”

“Without me, you won’t stand a chance in these circles. Who’s going to want a gold digger with a reputation as bad as yours?”

My smile vanished, and I looked at him coldly.

“A bad reputation? Isn’t that exactly what you gave me so you could make yourself look like some generous, understanding saint?”

“You loved having me by your side, making you look good and handling everything for you. But

then you decided I was too obsessed with money, so you found yourself an innocent little country

girl to make you feel morally superior.”

“You want a glamorous socialite to show off in public and a clueless little innocent who hangs on your every word. You want it both ways. What the hell does that make you?”

Hollis’s face turned livid, his chest rising and falling with anger.

“You weren’t like this before, Blythe. You’ve changed.”

“Nhaven’t changed. I’ve just stopped pretending.”

I let out a cold laugh, pulled a bank card from my bag, and tossed it at his feet.

“That card holds the cash value of every so–called gift you’ve given me over the years, minus what you owe me for the brand PR work I did for your company. There’s about $285,000 left. Take and get the hell out.”

Hollis stared at the card on the floor as though I’d dealt him the ultimate insult.

“Blythe Wetherell, you’re going to regret this! Stellan is just using you to get what he wants. Do you seriously think a man like him would ever want you?”
