“Your Highness, you’re being petty. Why fight with your own sister?”

“We grew up with Selina. We all see her as family.”

“You have everything in the world, Princess. Selina only has us brothers to rely on.”

Slowly, I even started to question myself. Maybe I really was too petty.

I had many duties to learn as the future queen, after all.

Hearing their mocking words last night finally opened my eyes.

As my anger boiled over, soft feminine moans drifted over from the small garden nearby.

The cold, reserved Damian had Selina pressed against the wall, kissing her passionately.

His hands wandered lower, reaching for the waistband of her underwear.

“Brother, please don’t claim Aurora,” Selina whimpered, trying to push him away. “If you bond with her, I won’t let you touch me ever again.”

Damian’s voice turned icy.

“I don’t want to claim her either. But the Alpha King saved us. I owe him.”

“Be sweet, Selina. Even if I make the mate bond with her, I’ll give her nothing but the title. She will never have my love.”

I’d heard more than enough.

I wanted no part of Damian’s pity, nor the fake affection from the other six promised mates.

I was the future queen of this kingdom. I would never struggle to find a partner.

“Father, there’s no use trying to change my mind. Asher is good. I can tell he truly loves me.”

Asher Knight was a taboo among werewolves. My father had forbidden him from setting foot on our land.

Still, he risked everything every year to send me expensive gifts on my birthday.

I lowered my long lashes, hiding the loneliness in my eyes.

“Damian and the others only obey me because of their roles as promised mates. Their loyalty is forced.”

Father gritted his teeth in rage.

“I knew Asher Knight had his eyes on you. I regret not killing him when I had the chance.”

“Send him word. You can make the bond with him, but you will not leave this kingdom. You are our future queen.”

“He’s willing to give up his territory, his people and his entire kingdom just to be with me,” I said, a faint warmth filling my chest.

“Just for me.”

Father’s expression softened a little.

“Very well. If he’s the one you want, so be it. He is far more powerful than any of your seven promised mates.”

Now that the marriage was settled, I brought up another matter.

“I no longer need those seven promised mates. There’s no reason for us to keep supporting Selina and them any longer. Freeze all their bank accounts. The United Pack Kingdom does not feed idle hands.”

“Agreed,” Father nodded. “Once you marry, they have no place here. I’ll send them all away on your wedding day. I won’t let them plot to seize power from you.”

I left the study after our talk.

Selina ran into me the second I reached the staircase.

“Sister, I heard you have an equestrian lesson this afternoon. Can I come with you?”
