The officers didn’t let him say another word. The lead captain just nodded at me from a distance, then the car drove off. 

The crowd stood frozen, staring at each other. 

“Wait–that was real? Vance actually got taken in?” 

Brittany hadn’t come back to herself either. She stood there, 

hair blowing in the wind. 

I turned and walked away. No pity. 

Ten years. Chase was talented and ruthless, that’s why Vance 

Industries got this far. But ten years wasn’t enough to 

compete with old money families. 

The only reason he rose so high was because his hands were 

dirty. 

That day, I gave the police all the records of his deals. 

I always knew about them. I never took part. He wanted to 

leave me with nothing? I’d take everything from him. 

I’m not some vine that needs a tree to hold me up. I’m not a 

woman who just cries when she’s wronged. 

I went back to Oakhaven Estate. 

This time, the staff had their heads down. No gossip. 

Because they knew, with Chase gone, Vance Industries fell to

I was drinking tea, waiting for the court’s decision, when a glass shattered at my feet. 

“Harper! You think you’ve won?” 

I looked up at Brittany’s furious face. 

I’d smashed her rich–wife dreams. She was seeing red. 

She crossed her arms. And then, her mouth twitched up. Like something good was about to happen. 

I frowned. “What?” 

“The court found Chase not guilty.” 

“That’s impossible.” I was on my feet. 

Brittany smiled. “Nothing’s impossible. And on top of that, 

you’re going to jail for defamation.” 

Then she took Ethan’s hand and strolled off. 

Less than an hour later, I got the court summons. 

It looked like things really were going her way. 

In the courtroom, Chase and I stood on opposite sides. 

Ten years of marriage. Now we faced each other in court. 

What a joke. In just a few hours, Chase had produced all this 

counter–evidence. And he’d thrown me under the bus. 

I flipped through the papers with shaking hands. 

He could have walked away clean. Could have pinned it on 

anyone. But he chose me. 

Men who play with power have no heart. 

I smiled bitterly. 

“Defendant Harper Quinn. The plaintiff charges you with 

defamation. How do you plead?” 

The trial was live–streamed. 

Chase could clear his name. Save Vance Industries‘ stock 

from freefall. 

And… my eyes moved to Brittany, standing beside Chase 

with Ethan, looking so caring. 

He could also prove that she was his real wife. His true love. 

What a plan. 

I looked at Chase. 

His gaze was light. It slid over me like I meant nothing. 

I curved my lips. “I have additional evidence.”
