The Wedding Red Sheet Became My Death Parachute Chapter 02

The Wedding Red Sheet Became My Death Parachute Chapter 02

The next morning, we set off for the SkyHigh Adrenaline Center.

As soon as we reached the garage, Amber naturally pulled open the passenger door.

Grant gallantly closed the door for her.

When he turned to look at me, his face immediately shifted into an expression of pure disgust.

“You and Daisy sit in the back. Don’t interrupt my conversation with Amber.”

Daisy immediately threw a tantrum.

“I want the front seat! I want to be with Auntie Amber! Mommy smells like kitchen grease, she stinks!”

She broke free from my hand and shoved her way toward the front.

Amber took the chance to pull the girl into her lap, laughing brightly.

“Oh, Daisy’s so sweet. How about Auntie Amber holds you?”

Grant smiled and rubbed his daughter’s head.

“That’s my girl. You know who really loves you.”

Watching their backs—looking like a perfect little family—my heart felt nothing.

In my past life, I would have hidden in a corner and cried at this sight.

I thought I wasn’t good enough, that I couldn’t hold my husband’s heart.

I thought I was too strict, which was why my daughter wasn’t close to me.

Now I understand: a leopard doesn’t change its spots.

The trash and the cheat are a perfect match, and a thankless child will never be fed enough.

I coldly pulled open the back door and sat down.

“Whatever.”

The whole way there, the front seat was filled with laughter.

Amber and Grant gossiped about the office, flirting and teasing each other.

Daisy giggled in Amber’s arms, calling her “Mommy Amber” over and over.

Grant didn’t stop her; instead, he looked on with doting eyes.

I watched it all, silently turning on the voice recorder on my phone.

When we arrived at the center, Grant went to the front desk to check us in.

Amber turned around, acting fake-sweet.

“Evelyn, why don’t you go grab a drink in the lounge? I’ll head to the equipment room to get your parachute.”

Her eyes were shimmering with excitement.

In my past life, I had gone to the lounge just as she suggested.

I had no idea that while “getting my gear,” she was swapping my parachute for that red bedsheet.

This time, I smiled and nodded.

“Sure. Thanks for the help.”

The moment she turned toward the equipment room, I followed her.

The hallway of the skydiving club was somewhat dim.

I lightened my footsteps, hiding behind a pillar at the corner.

Peeking out, I could see exactly what was happening inside.

Amber skillfully found the locker labeled with my name.

She looked around cautiously, and once she was sure no one was there, she threw the locker open.

She pulled a bundle of red fabric out of her large tote bag.

It was exactly the “Bless this Union” sheet Grant had bought for our wedding!

She nimbly tore open my pack, ripped out the parachute, and threw it into a corner.

Then, she stuffed the red bedsheet inside.

After finishing, she patted the pack with a smug grin.

“Evelyn, you really thought you could compete with me? Look at yourself.”

“Once you’re a smear on the pavement, Grant and the company will be all mine!”

Her venomous voice echoed sharply in the empty room.

I held up my phone and recorded the whole thing clearly.

Once the video was saved, I quietly retreated down the hall.

Then, I intentionally made my footsteps heavy as I walked toward the room.

“Amber, is my pack ready?”

I called out loudly.

Amber jumped, startled, and slammed the locker shut.

She turned around, her face pale, forcing a smile.

“Ready, ready! God, Evelyn, what’s the rush?”

She handed me the tampered parachute pack.

“I picked this one out specifically for you. Make sure you hold onto it personally.”

I took the pack, feeling the soft texture of the bedsheet inside.

I sneered in my heart.

“You’ve been so helpful.”

I walked back carrying the pack.

Grant and Daisy were already in the waiting area.

Grant glanced at the pack in my hand, his eyes shifting guiltily.

“What took so long? Always dragging your feet.”

I ignored him and turned to Amber.

“Amber, I need to use the restroom. Could you hold my pack for a second?”

Amber immediately took a step back as if I were holding something contagious.

“Evelyn, these packs are assigned to individuals. You should keep yours.”

I smiled.

“It’s fine. I’ll be right back.”

Before she could refuse, I shoved the pack into her arms.

I turned and walked away before she could say a word.

While “heading to the restroom,” I found one of the instructors.

I slid him a thick stack of cash.

“Instructor, I want a helmet with a built-in micro-camera. Money is no object.”

Seeing the cash, he immediately went to the warehouse and found me the latest model.

I put the helmet on and adjusted the angle.

When I returned to the waiting area, Amber was standing there impatiently with my pack.

Seeing me, she practically threw it at me.

“Finally. We’re about to board the plane.”

I took the pack but discreetly placed it on a nearby chair.

When I was at the equipment room, I had caught the number of Amber’s locker out of the corner of my eye.

While they weren’t looking, I pretended to tie my shoe.

I quickly swapped my pack on the chair with Amber’s pack sitting on the floor.

The two packs looked identical; you couldn’t tell them apart.

Done. I stood up and brushed off my hands.

“Let’s go. Time to fly.”

The corner of Amber’s mouth curled into a cruel arc.

“Yes, Evelyn. This will be the flight of a lifetime.”

I looked at her, my smile even brighter than hers.

“You’re right. The very last one.”

“I just wonder, in the end, who’s actually going to be the one ending up as a smear on the pavement.”
