The moment they left, Garrison’s father walked into the room, leaning heavily on his cane.

“The maritime summit is in a few days. You look far too repulsive to be seen.”

“Amber will step in and act as the Maritime Queen in your place.”

I turned my face away from him.

“My voice still works fine.”

He let out a cold snort, pulling a tactical knife from his waistband.

With a swift, brutal flick of his wrist, my left cheek tore wide open. Blood erupted instantly.

“But your face is ruined. It’s bad for business.”

A horrific scream tore from my throat, but only my own echo answered me within the empty room.

Garrison had transferred every single doctor to try and resuscitate a dead cat. No one was coming for me.

I forced myself up, grabbed a bottle of rubbing alcohol, and poured it directly onto the open wound.

The pain nearly blinded me. I bit through my own lip until it bled.

My phone rang.

“My Lady, the fleet is about to dock.”

“Understood.” I gasped out, fighting for air.

“Wait for me. I have one last thing to clear up.”

At midnight, I knocked on Amber’s bedroom door.

She opened it, and upon seeing the raw, bloody gash across my face, she let out a theatrical, fake gasp.

“Oh my god, ma’am! Your face! Are you alright?”

“Drop the act.”

I shoved past her and walked straight into the room.

“I know you’re pregnant, Amber.”

“Right now, I only want to know one thing: when the pirates boarded, did you purposely unlock the cabin doors to ensure my children died?”

She froze for a split second, then a smile spread across her lips.

“You’re incredibly smart, ma’am. But you’ve only guessed half of it.”

She stepped close, her voice dropping to a malicious whisper.

“I absolutely let those pirates in on purpose.”

“But without the Seaking’s direct clearance, who would dare step a single foot into these waters?”

An icy dread paralyzed my entire body.

She suddenly clamped her hand around my jaw, deliberately digging her sharp nails deep into my open wound.

“If you know what’s good for you, pack your bags and leave.”

“Otherwise, I’ll make sure you end up exactly like your three children.”

“Hacked into pieces.”

I violently threw her hand off me.

I didn’t even know how I managed to walk out of that estate, but by the time I reached the docks, only one singular thought remained in my mind.

Every single one of them was going to burn to hell to accompany my children.

Arthur was waiting for me by the edge of the vessel.

“Call the maritime summit for tomorrow morning immediately.”

I stepped onto the ship, the salty sea wind stinging my fresh wound.

“Summon the leaders of all four sectors. I’m choosing a new Seaking.”

“I want Garrison Sterling dead.”

“And I want Amber Cole ripped apart until there is nothing left to bury.”
