The Tenth Reset Ended Our Marriage Chapter 02

The Tenth Reset Ended Our Marriage Chapter 02

The moment the words left his mouth, Evan’s phone rang.

He answered immediately, his voice so gentle it practically dripped honey. “Sloane? What’s wrong?”

Sloane’s frightened sob came through the line. “Evan, there are a few people banging on my door…”

“Don’t be scared. Lock the door. I’ll be right there.”

The front door slammed shut behind him.

I stood alone in the empty living room, shivering.

Then I turned, walked into the study, and printed out a legally binding divorce agreement.

At two o’clock that afternoon, I sat outside the courthouse with the papers in my hands, waiting for him.

An hour passed.

He never showed.

I took out my phone and called Evan.

It rang for a long time before someone finally picked up, but what came through wasn’t his voice.

It was intimate, muffled sounds and a woman’s soft whispers.

“Ah… Evan, slower… you’re hurting me…”

My bl0od ran cold.

Then Evan’s own ragged breathing followed. “Sloane, relax… sorry I’m late.”

“Weren’t you supposed to go handle the divorce with that woman?” Sloane pouted.

“Forget her. She can wait. You’re the one I love. Let me satisfy you first…”

My stomach heaved.

I knew Evan was sick.

I also knew that once he came back to himself, he would drop to his knees and beg me.

But it didn’t matter anymore.

Sick or not, once he’d done it, he was filthy to me.

I didn’t know how much time had passed when a black Maybach pulled up to the curb.

Evan got out of the car, but he wasn’t alone.

He carefully supported Sloane at the waist and helped her out of the passenger seat.

She was wearing one of his oversized dress shirts, and her neck was covered in familiar hickeys.

“Tessa, I’m sorry. Sloane insisted on watching us finish the paperwork herself before she could feel at ease,” Evan explained, without a trace of guilt.

Leaning against him, Sloane looked at me with open provocation.

“Tessa Yates, your taste in men is still as good as ever. Your current man is way better than your ex. He kept me up all night, I can hardly stand today.”

She leaned closer, laughing softly so only I could hear.

“If you think about it, I’ve already been in both of the beds you shared with your husbands. They were nice and soft.”

I looked at her coldly.

“Yeah. But no matter how soft a bed is, it doesn’t change the fact that you live off other people’s leftovers.”

“A beggar is still a beggar. The only things you know how to take are what other people throw away. What, did Julian get bored of you, so now you’ve come crawling to Evan for scraps?”

“Shut up!”

Evan flew into a rage. He shoved Sloane behind him protectively, then shoved me roughly.

Caught off guard, I stumbled and fell onto the courthouse steps.

“Tessa, watch your mouth! Sloane is pure and innocent. You and Julian were the ones who ganged up on her back then!”

Pain shot through me so sharply I sucked in a breath, but I still laughed.

Pure and innocent? Since when was a woman who knowingly became the other woman pure and innocent?

Just then, a Rolls-Royce stopped in front of us.

Julian pushed open the car door and strode over.

The moment he saw me on the ground, his pupils tightened. He reached for me at once. “Tessa!”

I avoided his hand and pushed myself to my feet on my own.

When Evan saw Julian, he let out a mocking laugh.

“Well, look who’s here. Mr. Pierce. Perfect timing. I’m handing this vicious woman back to you.”

Julian ignored the sarcasm. He only looked at me, pain filling his eyes.

“Tessa, I’ve regretted it every single day for the past few years. Evan has no idea how to cherish you. Let’s get married again. I swear this time I’ll spend the rest of my life treating you right.”

I hadn’t even spoken yet when Evan’s expression changed first.

He turned to his assistant and said, “Take Sloane back to campus. She has class this afternoon. Don’t let her get cold.”

As soon as Sloane disappeared from view, Evan suddenly grabbed Julian by the collar.

His fist slammed into Julian’s face.

“You’ve got some nerve. Remarry her? In your dreams!”

Evan’s eyes were bl0odshot. “I’m not even really divorced from her yet. She’s mine, alive or dead. What makes you think you get to swoop in and take what’s mine?!”

Julian wiped the bl0od from the corner of his mouth and punched him back just as hard.

Right there in front of the courthouse, the two of them fought brutally in front of everyone.

Their suits tore.

Every punch drew bl0od.

Once, Julian had knelt in the pouring rain for me.

Later, Evan had begged me not to leave him while kneeling in a pool of his own bl0od.

I had softened for both of them once.

But now, I wanted neither of them.
