The System Said I Wasn’t the Heroine, So I Left My Alpha and He Broke Down Chapter 03

We were standing far too close. I could see every one of his lashes, and I caught the exact moment his pupils suddenly contracted, a flash of panic crossing his eyes.

[His breathing is messed up again. Even his scent is starting to slip out of control, and his face is red. You seriously need to get away from him.]

The system suddenly spoke up. I immediately pulled myself out of Adrian’s arms.

“You’ve been spacing out all morning… Is the urge to bite acting up again?”

After a brief silence, Adrian cleared his throat and asked the question quietly. I had been fine until he brought it up. Now that he’d mentioned it, the urge really did start creeping back.

Especially when my eyes landed on the tiny brown mole beside the scent gland on his neck. Even the roots of my teeth began to itch. I pressed my lips tightly together.

“No. I don’t want to.”

Adrian lowered his eyes and gave a small nod. After that, silence fell between us again. I had never realized how long this walk to school could feel.

Adrian had never been much of a talker, even when we were kids. I was always the one chattering nonstop around him. But today, I didn’t feel like saying anything at all.

Because the system had told me Adrian hated me.

He hated me touching him.

He hated me biting him.

And most of all, he hated having me constantly talking his ear off.

Only now did I realize that Adrian really did seem to be in a bad mood the entire way. Several times, I caught him looking like he wanted to say something, only to stop himself. His expression grew more irritated by the minute.

So I quickened my pace and walked even faster.

“Elena, if you want to…”

Adrian had barely gotten halfway through his sentence when the system started talking nonstop inside my head.

[The male lead is already this uncomfortable, and he’s still worrying about your biting problem. His self-control is unreal.]

I hurriedly waved my hands.

“I don’t want to. Not at all. I’ve been much better lately.”

Adrian’s dark eyes stayed on me for several seconds. Then he pressed his lips together.

“Okay. If you need me, just tell me.”

With the system still muttering in my head, I whispered under my breath,

“I won’t. I won’t need you anymore.”

It wasn’t until I stepped into the classroom that I finally felt a little better. Ryan, who sat beside me, had always been one of the top students in our class. He glanced at me, then at Adrian walking in behind me.

“You two fight?”

Even Ryan could tell from Adrian’s dark expression that something was wrong. I propped my chin on one hand, feeling irritated.

“No. Ryan, do you ever read werewolf romance novels?”

He silently turned over a page of his worksheet.

“No. But a lot of girls at school say Adrian looks exactly like the male lead in one.”

My mood sank even further. So apparently everyone could tell he was male-lead material. During PE, after we’d finished our timed laps around the track, I was still talking to Ryan about werewolf romance novels.

I asked him if I looked like the female lead. He went silent for two whole seconds.

“No female lead would be this dumb.”

Did getting good grades give him the right to insult me like that? I got so annoyed that I pinched him. We were still messing around when two tumblers suddenly appeared in front of us.

Adrian wasn’t even trying to hide how irritated he was. His expression looked downright terrifying.

“The juice I brought you this morning.”

The system sighed.

[Poor male lead. He’s been doing things like this for you ever since you were kids.]

I pressed my lips together, picked up one of the tumblers, and took several drinks. I was just trying to figure out how to tell Adrian that he didn’t need to bring me anything tomorrow when the air suddenly went quiet. Ryan cleared his throat.

“I think you grabbed the wrong tumbler.”

I looked down. Only then did I realize I’d already drunk more than half of Adrian’s juice.
