The Stupid Wife’s Last Stand Chapter 05

The Stupid Wife’s Last Stand Chapter 05

After the police took Mia’s father away and the chaos subsided.

Dante called his lead security detail.

“Did you get my wife safely to the lodge?”

The bodyguard sounded panicked.

“Dante, I didn’t see her. I came as soon as you called. I searched the whole road. I found no sign of

her.”

“The housekeeper said she never arrived.”

Dante’s voice went cold.

“What do you mean, she wasn’t there? That road only leads to the lodge. If she wasn’t on the road and she wasn’t at the house, then where is she?”

He hung up and immediately called Autumn.

[The number you have dialed is currently unavailable.]

Dante frowned, his fingers tapping faster and faster against the desk.

“She’s just throwing a tantrum,” he muttered. “The road is cold and dark. She’s terrified of the dark. She wouldn’t run.”

Then he stopped.

Yes.

He knew exactly how vulnerable she was.

He remembered the night he kicked down her door.

She had been covered in bruises, rope marks cutting into her wrists, her eyes full of nothing but

terror.

In that moment, he had sworn he would never let her suffer like that again.

Dante slammed his fist onto the desk, desperate to drown out the memory of his own cruelty.

The bodyguard called again.

“Dante, I checked three times. Still nothing.”

Dante cursed and grabbed his keys.

Mia was standing behind him. As he walked past, she caught his sleeve.

“Dante, you said you’d take me shopping for the baby today. Where are you going?”

He pinched the bridge of his nose, exhausted.

“There’s no time for shopping.”

Mia’s lashes trembled. “I’m still shaken up. Stay with me, please?”

Dante looked at her in silence for a long moment.

“You’re smart. You’re honest. You know your place. That’s why you were allowed to carry my

child.”

His voice turned colder.

“But now, are you asking for too much?”

Mia’s heart lurched.

Dante had been so gentle with her lately that she had almost forgotten the predator that lived

beneath the surface.

“I’m sorry, Dante,” she whispered. “I was just nervous.”

She stepped back and wiped her tears.

Dante drove like a man possessed, desperate to find that foolish girl.

He sped all the way to the lodge and searched the grounds himself.

Nothing.

Only when the security footage came in did he see her getting into another car.

Not an Uber.

Panic seized him.

He imagined her tricked. Kidnapped. Vanished into the night.

“Track that car,” he ordered. “Now. Find out where it went and who owns it.”
