The Sister I Raised Took My Bed And My Man Chapter 06

The Sister I Raised Took My Bed And My Man Chapter 06

The story tore through the family faster than I ever

imagined

Olivia posted the security footage from the

birthday barbecue into the family group chat. Within

ten minutes, the entire chat had detonated

Aunt Linda dug up the couple photos Ivy had

posted on her socials. Bouquets. Candlelit dinners. Ten

fingers interlaced

Aunt Patricia got on the phone that same night and

told every branch of her side of the family

By noon the next day, the whole extended family in

Millbrook and beyond knew

The younger Vance daughter, while her sister was

away on business, had crawled into her

almostbrotherinlaw’s bed. Got caught in her

sister’s own bed

All those aunts and uncles who’d watched us grow

up, not a single one took her side

They knew I was the one who brought her home

when her exhusband threw her out

They knew I was the one who wired her my bonus when she was broke

They knew I was the one who crawled out of bed at three in the morning to get her when she was too drunk

to stand

The family had seen all of it with their own eyes

Now she’d stolen my man, and no one was speaking up for her

The girls she grew up with, half of them were my classmateslittle sisters, the neighbor’s daughters, kids we’d run the same streets with. None of them wanted anything to do with her now

Someone posted a photo of her working at the flower shop into a local community group. The comments stacked up fast

That’s the one. Stole her own sister’s boyfriend.”

Looks all sweet and puttogether, but what she did is disgusting.”

I heard she’s got a bad heart. You’d think she’d be scared of karma catching up with her.”

The flower shop’s business tanked

Chloe called me. Someone had snapped a photo of

the shop’s storefront and posted it online. The

comments were brutal. Ivy couldn’t take the pressure and quit

Julian’s side wasn’t any better

He’d built his whole reputation on being solid and dependable. Stealing your fiancée’s little sister, that’s the kind of grimy story that follows you no matter

where you go

He’d been on the partnership track at his firm. Endofyear promotions were coming, and his name

was on the list. Then someone filed an anonymous

complaint about his conduct, and the whole thing

collapsed

The career he’d been so proud of was gone

overnight

He called me. A lot. I didn’t pick up once

He tried from a different number. I’d hear his voice

and hang up

He sent long, rambling texts. Explanations. Apologies. Regrets. I read them all and deleted every

one

Eventually, he stopped reaching out

Someone told me they saw him late at night at a convenience store, buying a single can of beer. He stood outside and drank the whole thing before

stumbling home

He never used to drink

When I met him, he told me alcohol dulled your judgment. He never touched it on a work night

And Ivy sent me one final message. A voice note

late at night

She was crying so hard she could barely breathe. ElenaI went to the pharmacy by myself today. You

used to always come with me.”

The doctor said my heart’s worse than before

Said I have to avoid stress.”

Julian blocked my number. I scrolled through my

entire contact list. You’re the only person I have. The

only one I could call.”

I stared at my phone for a long time

I never replied

A month later, I handed my accounts over to

deputy I trusted and took a new project in Singapore

time

Before I left, I went back to the farmhouse one last

Grandma Rose was sitting in her wicker chair. When she saw me walk in, something flickered in her cloudy eyes

It’s good to go far away.”

She rested her hand against my face for a moment. When your mama passed, she left Ivy to you. You were

only twelve. I watched you carry her down the street on

your back, swaying with every step. It broke my heart.”

You’ve carried enough for one lifetime. From now on, you live for yourself.”

I held her hand and said nothing

When the plane crested over the Gulf, I looked down at the clouds beneath the wing

All the painful memories could stay right here

When I came back, I’d be someone new.
