The Single Mom Who Toyed With Married Men Chapter 12

The Single Mom Who Toyed With Married Men Chapter 12

Chloe was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and attempted arson.

Whatever came next, it wasn’t going to be kind.

Leo was left with Mr. Davis for the moment. I heard later that they reached his grandmother, who came and

took him home.

As for Winston Evans, the man bankrolling Chloe, his wife apparently found proof he’d been hiding assets.

Last I heard, he was buried in a divorce of his own.

The building settled down.

But something had shifted.

Mitchell, Harrison, and the rest of the men couldn’t look anyone in the eye.

They came home from work every day with their heads down, hugging the walls like they were trying to

disappear.

Brenda and the other wives who’d spent months swallowing their pride finally walked around the building like they owned the place. Because they did.

That weekend, Nathaniel was in the kitchen making dinner.

I was curled up in the lounge chair on the balcony, watching the last of the sunlight wash the living room in

gold.

He came over with a plate of fruit, set it next to me, and sat down.

“Well, Mrs. Hayes. Hell of a week you just had.”

He picked up a grape and held it up to my lips, grinning. “Took on the neighborhood siren, dismantled her whole operation, and walked away without a scratch. I’m impressed.”

I ate the grape and gave him a look. “You think that was just about her?”

“Of course not.” The grin faded. He looked at me for real now. “You did it for the women she bulldozed. The

ones who couldn’t fight back.”

“Wrong.” I tapped a finger against his chest.

“I was showing you, Mr. Hayes, what your wife is capable of.” I smiled. “So if any other little pests come

buzzing around you…”

“You won’t have to lift a finger.” Nathaniel caught my hand and pressed his lips to my fingertips. His eyes held mine, steady and sure.

“I’ll grab the bug spray myself.”

He said it with such a straight face that I burst out laughing.

The last of the light stretched long and warm across the room.

Our home was ours again. Every corner of it.
