I left Leith’s room before he came out of the bathroom.

The moment I returned to my own room, more comments flashed across my vision.

[Wait, she’s leaving already?]

[She usually won’t leave him alone until midnight, then goes back to her room and keeps pestering him over text.]

[This is ruining everything! I was waiting for her to finally push the obsessive male lead over the edge.]

I checked the time.

It was only 9:30 p.m.

Last night at this hour, I had been sprawled across Leith’s bed, breathing in the faint scent clinging to his sheets.

“Leith, your whole bed smells like you,” I had purred. “I love it.”

He sat at his desk reading and completely ignored me.

But the tips of his ears had turned red.

That gave him away.

I walked over, snatched the book from his hands, and held it behind my back.

“What’s so interesting about this? Is it prettier than me?”

“Come on, pretty boy. Look at me. I know you’re not completely immune.”

When he still refused to lift his head, I bent down until my face was right in front of his.

“Am I pretty?”

Leith stared at me in silence.

Eventually, he opened the door and stood beside it, clearly telling me to leave.

I refused.

So he started signing at me.

I didn’t understand ASL, which meant I interpreted it however I wanted.

“What was that? You’re afraid of the dark?”

I widened my eyes innocently.

“You want me to stay and sleep with you?”

Leith’s expression turned icy.

He marched over, hauled me off the bed, and shoved me out of his room.

Without Leith to tease, I was bored out of my mind.

But staying alive—and keeping my sister and our cushy new life intact—mattered more.

I grabbed my phone and opened a game to distract myself.

A text from Leith suddenly appeared.

A question mark?

What was that supposed to mean?

I sent one back.

He didn’t reply.

He must have tapped my name by accident.

I pouted and went back to my game.
