The Senator’s Daughter Is Now the CEO They Need Chapter 31

Noah was interning in New York.

We met up almost every weekend.

I didn’t go back to Washington for the holidays.

I spent Thanksgiving at Liam’s house. His mother’s turkey was miles better than anything the Davis family chef had ever made.

For Christmas, I went backpacking through Europe with Isabella.

They all treated me like one of their own.

It was a kind of affection that didn’t require me to come in first place or prove my worth.

The day after Thanksgiving, Catherine called.

“Chloe,” she said. Her voice sounded exhausted, though she maintained her usual elegance. “Why didn’t you come home? New Haven isn’t that far.”

Holding the phone, I could clearly hear the sounds on her end of the line.

Olivia was laughing.

Julian was shouting.

“Nice shot, Liv! One more round!”

Later, I heard from Isabella that Oxford had revoked Olivia’s admission.

Her reputation in Washington was completely ruined.

The girls who used to orbit her now ignored her.

She didn’t dare go out and spent her days at home playing video games.

And the Davises just let her.

I stood by the window, looking at the thin layer of snow covering the Yale campus, and smiled.

“Do you really not know why I won’t come back?”

The other end of the line went silent.

A few seconds later, Catherine hung up without another word.
