The Senator’s Daughter Is Now the CEO They Need Chapter 12

Julian sneered from behind me. “Look at her. All she sees is money. It doesn’t matter how many resources you give her; it’s a waste.”

Olivia gently tugged on his sleeve, her voice a soft murmur.

“Julian, don’t say that. Chloe just isn’t very likable. And today… it was really my fault. When you say things like that, it makes me feel guilty.”

I didn’t bother turning around.

If I didn’t get out of there, they were going to discover the recording pen still running in my pocket.

I had learned my lesson too many times.

If I didn’t come prepared, I had no one to blame but myself.

Back in my room, I took the pen from my pocket, placed it in the deepest drawer of my desk, and locked it.

I had just finished when there was a knock at the door.

My mother, Catherine, walked in carrying a glass of warm milk.

Seeing me sitting motionless at my desk, she sighed softly.

“I know you were wronged today.” She set the glass down. “But don’t blame your father. With everything that’s happened, he just lost his temper for a moment.”

She took a small step closer.

“Olivia meant well, too. She was only afraid you’d go down the wrong path.”

I shifted my chair slightly to the side, putting more distance between us.

She must have taken it as a sign of defiance. Her voice took on a wounded tone.

“Chloe, why are you so distant with me now? You think I’m biased, too, don’t you?”

I looked at her.

“Isn’t it obvious?”

My bluntness stunned her.

A few seconds later, tears welled in her eyes, and she grabbed my hand.
