The Seat Beside The Mafia Heir Chapter 03

The Seat Beside The Mafia Heir Chapter 03

Matteo and I had plans to meet at Teatro Arcadia for a movie.

But Nina got into a car crash that night.

I rushed to Santa Lucia Private Clinic the second I got the call. I completely forgot about our date.

By the time Nina was out of surgery and her parents had arrived, I remembered Matteo.

I called him over and over. He didn’t pick up.

I got to Teatro Arcadia just as the movie was letting out.

And I saw Matteo walking out with Serena.

I didn’t think much of it at first. I just wanted to explain.

But he was angry.

He said I’d chosen my friend over him.

I lost it too.

Nina was in surgery. How was I supposed to leave her for a movie?

It was our first real fight.

Serena stood there, trying to calm me down.

Except she was defending Matteo the whole time.

She said I should understand how he felt being stood up. She said I’d embarrassed him, and heirs like Matteo weren’t used to being embarrassed.

I ignored her and kept arguing with Matteo.

Then I noticed something wrong.

Matteo knew things Nina had said about him in private. Complaints she’d made in our dorm room.

He demanded to know if Nina was trying to break us up.

I froze. My eyes went to Serena.

Serena’s eyes went red instantly.

She said she hadn’t meant to tell him. She was only trying to smooth things over so he wouldn’t misunderstand me.

I asked her why she’d been at the movie with him.

She said she knew I was at the hospital and didn’t want Matteo to wait alone, so she came to explain for me.

Matteo said the tickets would’ve gone to waste, and Serena wanted to see the movie anyway, so they went in together.

I asked why he didn’t answer my calls.

He said his phone was on silent. Serena had already told him I couldn’t make it.

I didn’t talk to him for a week.

Serena kept apologizing. She even came to the hospital to explain in front of Nina.

Nina threw her out.

She told me not to forgive Matteo.

Even if he hadn’t technically crossed a line, something was off. Serena wanted to see the movie, fine. He could’ve just given her the ticket. Why did he have to stay?

Nina said Matteo was an heir with no spine.

I was still in love.

Matteo spent two weeks winning me back. I forgave him.

Nina said I’d regret it.

She was right.

Matteo and I were together for seven years.

Yesterday, it ended.

The reason was as cliché as it was disgusting.

It was Matteo’s birthday. I brought a cake and a gift to his penthouse in Porta Nuova.

I found him in bed with another woman.

That woman was Serena.

I threw the cake at them. Then I dumped the ice bucket over their heads.

Serena screamed. Matteo scrambled for his clothes.

I didn’t want to hear a word.

I grabbed everything I could and threw it.

When I was done, I packed my things. I’d only stayed there occasionally, so it didn’t take long.

Matteo tried to hug me.

I shoved him off.

That got to him. He finally said what he really thought.

“Gia, this isn’t all my fault. Don’t you think you had a part in this?”

I stopped.

His eyes were red-rimmed.

“Seven years. And you never let me touch you. Every time we got close, you pushed me away. I’m a man. I have needs.”

I stared at him. He was absurd.

“Matteo, you’re the one who said you wanted to wait until our wedding night.”

He looked away, then back at me with more defiance.

“I said that. But no man can wait forever. If we don’t get married for another ten years, are you going to keep me waiting that long?”

I slammed my suitcase down.

“Seven years. I brought up marriage so many times. You kept saying your place in the Conti family wasn’t secure enough to make me your wife.”

My voice went cold.

“I dressed the way your mother approved of. I learned the rules of your circle. I took the job your family approved of. And you? You wanted my loyalty, but you didn’t have the courage to be my husband.”

His expression twisted. He said I’d changed. That I used to be softer, more considerate.

I kept my voice down.

“Why Serena? Anyone else, and I might’ve understood. But my friend?”

He was quiet for a moment.

“Don’t you see? She’s like you used to be.”
