I saw the warning in my mom’s eyes.

And I understood they’d known all along—the person standing on the stage was Ayla.

I stumbled out of the celebration, tears streaming down my face.

I pulled out my phone and called my professor, voice cracking.

“Professor… I’ve made up my mind. I’m going north with you.”

When Ayla got back to the pack house, she shrugged off her jacket and dropped it on the floor.

My mom closed the door and ordered me around like she always did.

“Ni… Ayla, can’t you see Nina’s tired? Go wash her clothes.”

I took a sip of water and laughed. “Mom, why are you asking me to do this?”

“Isn’t it always Nina who does all the laundry in our house?”

My mom’s face stiffened. “Fine. I know you’re Nina.”

“But what are we going to do about your sister?”

“She’s only C-rank. She can’t even get into an omega academy.”

I smiled coldly. “So?”

“So you give her your Royal Werewolf Academy spot.”

“You can just take the exam again next year.”

“Think about it. With both of you in that top-tier academy, our pack’s status in the Wolf Alliance would be untouchable.”

My mom’s eyes glazed over like she was already seeing two Alphas bowing to her.

But why? Why should I?

I trained day and night for over a decade.

I had gone through countless failures.

I got eliminated from the Moon Goddess trials over and over again.

All because I wanted to be the strongest wolf warrior there was.

Then Ethan walked in with a gift. He went straight to Ayla.

“Ayla… Nina. This is for your awakening ceremony.”

I didn’t care about anything else anymore. I grabbed Ethan’s sleeve.

“Ethan, you’re a law student. My parents want my sister to take my spot. Tell them that’s illegal!”

Ethan glanced at my parents. He knew the truth was out now. He avoided my eyes and said,

“Nina, if you don’t make a scene, no one will probably find out.”

“You and Ayla look exactly alike. Even your bloodline signatures are almost identical. Regular tests can’t tell you apart.”

“So even you think I should hand over my S-rank results to Ayla?”

I couldn’t hold it in anymore. Tears of humiliation spilled down my cheeks.

“Ethan, you’re the one who kept pushing me to get into Royal Werewolf Academy. You said we’d go to the same school.”

“You trained with me all summer and broke down fighting techniques with me. You said I was nothing like Ayla…”

Ethan sighed and cut me off. “You know Ayla’s not a combat wolf. The only way I could help her was through you.”

He gave me that apologetic smile. “Nina, you can take the exam again next year. All four of us could still be together. Doesn’t that sound great?”

Zane watched me suffer and patted my shoulder.

“Look, I’ll buy you the strawberry and chocolate cake Ayla got. I’ll make it up to you.”

“We’ll take you to get a new phone and laptop tomorrow.”

“Oh, and the trips, where do you want to go?”

“We went to Silver Lake and Northern Forest the last two times. Both were pretty fun.”

“Wait—”

I held up my hand and cut him off.

“So all this time… you could tell us apart? You and Mom and Dad?”

They didn’t answer. Just coughed and looked away.

I lowered my head and laughed at myself.

The cakes, the gifts, the trips, all of it had been for Ayla.

I remembered telling my mom my air conditioner was broken.

She bought a new one that same day, but had someone install it in Ayla’s room.

I told her my phone was dying.

She said she’d take me to get a new one.

I waited and waited. And all I got was Ayla showing off her brand new phone in front of me.

I used to scream and cry and try to prove to my parents that I was Nina. But they’d gotten it wrong again.

They just stared at me blankly. Finally, they’d say, “So we made a mistake. Why are you acting like a lunatic?”

When I asked them to give me what was mine, they said,

“Why do you have to fight with your little sister over everything?”
