Zephyr walked out of the VIP terminal.

Behind him, over a dozen bodyguards in black followed in formation.

A tiny figure squeezed through the gap between two of them and barreled toward me on stubby little legs.

“Mommy!”

I crouched down and caught him.

He threw his arms around my neck and launched straight into his grievances, voice high and indignant.

“Daddy walks too slow!”

Zephyr reached my side and handed my bag off to a bodyguard.

He looked down at me.

“Someone give you a hard time?”

Before I could answer, the Virethorn Pack had already gone rigid in a row.

Edward recognized Zephyr first.

His face went from furious red to deathly white in three seconds flat.

“Alpha… Zephyr Nocturne?”

Patricia still hadn’t caught on.

“What Alpha Zephyr?”

Edward hissed at her through clenched teeth.

“Zephyr!”

Patricia’s mouth fell open. No sound came out.

Grace was frozen too.

She stared at Zephyr, then her gaze dropped to the child in my arms.

“Mommy?”

My son blinked at her.

“I’m calling my mommy. You wanna call her mommy too?”

Someone nearby burst out laughing.

Grace’s face flushed crimson.

Zephyr pulled me behind him, and his gaze swept down to the hand Patricia had raised earlier.

“Who tried to hit my mate?”

Patricia’s knees buckled.

“Misunderstanding. It’s all a misunderstanding.”

“She’s my birth daughter. We were just having a family conversation.”

I hadn’t even opened my mouth when the sound of a cane striking marble echoed from the terminal corridor.

Benjamin emerged.

He was old, but his presence was anything but diminished.

“Who’s family with you?”

“Claire is the sole princess of the Silvermist Pack.”

“Seven years ago, your Virethorn Pack published a formal severance. Don’t come crawling back now pretending to be relatives.”

Sweat broke out across Edward’s forehead.

He forced a smile immediately.

“There’s been a misunderstanding.”

“Claire is still Virethorn blood, after all.”

“We’ll practically be in-laws going forward. No need to make things ugly, right?”

Zephyr looked at him.

“In-laws?”

“You think you qualify?”

Edward’s smile died on his face.

Zephyr turned to his Beta. “Release the Virethorn file.”

The Beta nodded.

Less than thirty seconds later, the financial news ticker in the airport lobby cut to a breaking story.

“Virethorn Pack suspected of a liquidity crisis. Multiple partners have suspended settlements.”

“Tax irregularities currently under investigation.”

Edward’s phone erupted.

He answered one call, and the color drained from his face layer by layer.

“Mr. Morgan, let me explain–”

Zephyr’s voice was level.

“Effective immediately, all Nocturne Pack ventures will cease cooperation with the Virethorn Pack.”

“Any company deeply tied to the Virethorn Pack will be subject to reassessment by Nocturne Pack as well.”

Edward nearly collapsed.

Patricia finally understood real fear.

She turned to me, her tone soft as butter now.

“Claire, talk to Zephyr. Please.”

“We’re family.”

I adjusted my son’s crooked hat without looking up.

“Weren’t you just calling me a kept woman?”

“Now we’re family?”

My son didn’t understand the first part. He only caught the word family.

He turned his head and announced with perfect seriousness, “Mommy’s family is me, Daddy, Great-Grandpa,

Grandpa, and Grandma.”

“Not you guys.”

Patricia’s face cycled from white to green.

Grace suddenly stepped forward.

“Alpha Zephyr, there’s something you may not be aware of.”

“I’m about to be engaged to Alaric Mooncrest.”

“The Mooncrest Pack is no small name either.”

She straightened her back with all the dignity she could muster.

“If you keep coming after the Virethorn Pack, the Mooncrest Pack won’t just sit by and watch.”

Zephyr glanced at her.

“Alaric?”

He took a phone from his Beta’s hand and dialed a number.

One sentence. That was all he said.

“Break off the engagement.”

Grace’s expression froze solid.

The next second, her phone rang.

She answered with trembling hands.

Alaric’s voice carried through.

“Grace, the engagement is off.”

Grace screamed. “Why?”

Alaric let out a cold laugh.

“Your Virethorn Pack is about to go bankrupt, and you want to drag me down with you?”

“Oh, and that little history of yours? Zephyr’s people already sent me everything.”

“Fake pregnancy. Fake miscarriage. Framing your own sister.”

“Grace, you’re filthy.”

The venom she had kept hidden behind her eyes finally clawed its way to the surface.

“Claire!”

“How dare you?”

Grace charged at me, her makeup streaked with tears.

A bodyguard stepped forward and stopped her cold.

She hit the ground, screaming like something feral.

“Claire, you ruined me!”

“The second you came back, you started stealing everything that was mine!”

“I’m the Virethorn Pack princess! Alaric’s fiancee is me!”

“Why won’t you just die?”
