The Queen They Abandoned in the Shadows Chapter 08

“These hands once painted artwork worth a fortune—and Matteo destroyed them. Someone who can barely hold a brush anymore, someone you already broke once—all I want is peace. You’re the ones who keep coming after me.”

My stare pinned Bianca in place.

“And you, Bianca. When that truck came, your first instinct wasn’t to protect Noah. You ran for yourself—and you shoved him forward. The camera footage is right there. Do you dare let everyone see who really sent him to his death?”

“You’re lying! I didn’t mean it! I panicked!”

Bianca’s face went white, shaking like a leaf. Every word I spoke struck straight at her deepest fear.

Just then, the officer who’d gone for the footage returned with a grave expression. He murmured something to his supervisor, then set up a portable screen.

“No! Don’t play it! She’s lying!”

Bianca lunged for the screen, but an officer held her back.

At a signal, the footage played for everyone to see.

The high-definition video laid every shameless act completely bare for the public to see. It showed Bianca maneuvering Noah to his knees in front of me, her fake tears and pleas plain to see.

When the truck swerved, I stepped back.

Bianca scrambled backward too—but in her retreat, her arm made a clear, deliberate forward motion, shoving Noah hard in the back.

That one push sent him stumbling straight into the truck’s path.

The frame froze on that image: Bianca’s arm extended, pushing the boy forward. Brutal, undeniable, crystal clear.

The crowd erupted.

“Oh my God, she really pushed him!”

“She ran and threw that little boy under the truck!”

“She twisted the truth and pinned the crime on his birth mother out of spite!”

“Is she even human?”

Every gaze that had once held pity or suspicion turned to contempt, rage, and revulsion, piercing through Bianca like countless sharp, scorching darts.

Matteo stared numbly at the frozen image. The frame showing his son being pushed to his death drove a knife straight into his already shattered heart.

He looked at Bianca, collapsing now that her lies were exposed—then at me, pale but steady, standing unbroken.

It was his fault. All of it.

He’d let a snake into his home. He’d been a fool. For this woman, he’d pushed away the wife he loved, destroyed his family, and left his mother-in-law to die. It was all his fault.

“Aaahhh—!”

Matteo let out a raw, soul-shredding scream.

He tore free from the officers—who had loosened their grip in shock—and lunged at Bianca, hands closing around her throat.

“You evil, vicious monster! Give my boy back to me! Give me back my Elisa too! I’m gonna kill you, I swear I’ll kill you!”

His grip was inhuman, his face twisted with madness. Bianca’s eyes rolled back, legs kicking, making raspy, gurgling choking noises.

Several officers rushed in together and finally pried him off.

Bianca slumped to the ground like a limp, lifeless heap, coughing violently and gasping for air, her face slick with tears, snot, and terror.

She looked at the crowd’s hateful stares, the handcuffs in the officer’s hands, Matteo’s murderous glare—and finally broke.

She knew it was over. Her name and dignity were utterly ruined beyond redemption, and she faced serious charges.

I stood apart, watching the tragedy reach its brutal end.

I felt no triumph—only a cold, hollow emptiness.

I’d told the truth, torn down their masks, and cut every last tie to my past.

Noah’s death was an accident, but it was also a tragic outcome born entirely from the bitter consequences of their mutual cruelty and wrongdoing.
