The Perfect Score That Cost Me Everything Chapter 03

His eyes darkened, and it took a long time before he squeezed out a response.

“Fine.”

Melody looked up sharply, her eyes filled with heartbreak as she looked at Julian before crying and

rushing out.

He took a deep breath.

I knew he was suppressing his temper; his thoughts had probably already flown off with Melody.

But he still looked at me to explain.

“Sienna, we need to talk.”

I looked up, meeting his gaze. “Sure, let’s talk. Right now.”

He took off his glasses and pinched his brow.

He pulled a stack of documents from a drawer and handed them to me.

“Melody lost both parents in high school. I sponsored her through college. She was determined enough to get hired by Vance Enterprises without me even knowing.”

“I know I can be a bit indulgent with her sometimes, but Sienna.”

He paused and stepped forward to hug me. “Melody is just a kid to me. You are my wife-my only

wife.”

I listened and said nothing.

His arms tightened. “I will fire her, but I hope this is the end of it regarding her.”

I heard the subtext: he wanted me to stop making trouble for Melody.

Whatever. I was exhausted.

“Fine, let it be.”

For the next week, I didn’t see Melody again, and I thought she had vanished from my life.

But one day, suffering from a stomach ache, I had my driver take me to the underground parking

lot.

Taking the elevator to the B1 level, I turned a corner.

And there, not far away, was Julian, leaning against his black Maybach.

Standing before him was a tearful Melody.

My footsteps stopped abruptly, my eyes darkened, and my stomach hurt even more.

I watched the man sigh and ruffle her hair, his tone gentle and coaxing.

“Alright, stop crying. I haven’t really abandoned you; you just can’t work at the main Vance office.”

“I’ve found a good spot for you. You’ll be the PR Director at a subsidiary. Consider it

compensation.”

Melody sniffled.

“But I’ve been following you since graduation. How can Mrs. Vance be like this? It was just a small

mistake.”

“She just doesn’t like me; she’s taking out a personal grudge!”

“Mel.” Julian frowned. “Forget it. Just stay out of her way from now on.”

“I’m here if you feel mistreated.”

Melody pouted, finally looking a bit happier.

But her happiness made me miserable; my face went pale from the stomach pain.

“Julian Vance, is this your ‘explanation’ to me?”

I stepped out from behind the stone pillar, causing both of them to stiffen simultaneously.

Melody reacted as if she’d been shocked. “M-Mrs. Vance…’

My icy gaze made her look away, and she instinctively ducked behind Julian.

The man in the tailored suit pursed his lips.

“Sienna, let’s talk about this at home.”

I smiled, but the smile didn’t reach my eyes. “What, are you afraid I’ll hurt your little secretary?

Afraid I’ll make her disappear without a trace?”

“Sienna Sterling!”
