“S-class warrior?!”

Those words hit Mom and Dad like twin lightning strikes.

The guests erupted. “Did I hear that right? First place is the Miller family’s overlooked older daughter?”

“Oh my god—682 points! She could’ve waltzed into Elvorz or Otos!”

“Good grief, Mark, didn’t you tell us your eldest was just a C-class? The last S-class in this pack was Alpha Julian himself!”

Dad’s glass shook in his hand. Red wine soaked his white shirt, and he didn’t even notice. He stammered at the reporter like he’d seen a ghost. “Ma’am, are you sure there’s no mistake?”

“Katherine’s wolf is naturally weak. She hasn’t shifted once since she was fifteen—not once! How could she be first? She’s not half the wolf her sister is. Are you sure it’s the right Katherine?”

The reporter, flustered by the awkward scene, professionally handed over a printed copy of the official results.

“Sir, this is straight from the Education and Examination Authority. There’s only one Katherine in this pack. Please check if this is your daughter.”

Mom snatched the paper. The moment her eyes hit that impossible rating and the familiar ID number, the room spun.

It was real.

The daughter she’d dismissed as “just a C-class,” the daughter she’d said “can’t compare to your sister,” was the pack’s number one—an S-class warrior. And the daughter she’d bragged about suddenly looked painfully average.

Worse, she’d just announced to hundreds of pack members that she wished she’d only had the younger one.

The whispers around her turned sharp and mocking. “What kind of mother ignores her firstborn when she’s literally the top wolf?”

“Looks like she’s been stepping on the older one to boost the younger—and now it’s blown up in her face.”

“Taking the first-place kid’s money to buy the younger one a bracelet? Those parents have some nerve…”

Sarah’s face went white. She instinctively tried to hide the moonstone bracelet behind her back. “No… that’s impossible…”

Owen went rigid. He shot back automatically, “Katherine never even made the training honor roll. There’s no way she’s first! You must’ve screwed up!”

Then he remembered the strength I’d suddenly shown, and his voice hardened. “She definitely cheated! Just like those rogue wolves!”

The reporter frowned, baffled by this family’s reaction. “Sir, the pack aptitude test has a five-star, maximum-security anti-cheating protocol.”

“And those so-called rogue wolves? They were just stray wolves harassing students outside the testing grounds. They’ve already been banished.”

“Katherine isn’t just this year’s top scorer—she’s the first S-class warrior our pack has seen in a century. Now, where is she? We need a short interview.”

Mom opened her mouth, but nothing came out. Where was she? She didn’t know. She only remembered the calls she’d made earlier—unanswered, the mindlink channel dead. She’d been cursing me for being difficult.

Shame and panic coiled around her heart like a snake. She yanked out her phone and dialed the number she knew by heart.

“The number you have dialed is busy…”

She tried again. “The number you have dialed is no longer in service…”

She sent a WhatsApp message. Message sent but blocked by recipient.

Katherine—the doormat who never fought back, never talked back—had blocked her.

Dad fumbled for his phone, tried calling. Straight to voicemail. Blocked. Owen, in total denial, fired off a string of texts. Green bubbles. Not a single one delivered.

The ballroom plunged into icy silence. The guests’ looks turned from envy to scorn.

The reporter shook her head regretfully. “Since the student in question isn’t present, we’ll have to cancel today’s interview. Sorry for the intrusion.”

Mom collapsed into a chair, covering her face as she sobbed.
“What did I do to deserve this? Katherine, where are you…”

But the spectacle was already over. The party ended in humiliation.
