The Only Color Left In His World Was Another Woman Chapter 06

Panic set in, and Julian immediately booked the

earliest flight home.

But Brielle stood beside him, biting her lip and sniffling as she gave him a wounded look.

“Julian, you’re really going to leave me here all alone and fly home because of Tessa?”

“Reaching the summit of Mount Norens has always been my dream, and we’re supposed to leave tomorrow. I know you want to rush home and make things up with Tessa, but come on. You know the games girls play when they want

attention. They disappear, stop answering calls, block your number. If you run back to her now, you’re falling right into her trap.”

Her eyes were red from crying, and she’d bitten her

soft pink lips hard enough to draw blood.

Julian stared at the redness around her eyes,

momentarily transfixed.

When Brielle realized she had his attention again,

a flicker of satisfaction crossed her face.

She softened her voice and tugged at his sleeve,

coaxing him the way she always did.

“Julian, Tessa’s just upset and trying to get a

reaction out of you. Even if you want to go home

and find her, another day or two won’t make any.

difference…”

But this time, something unexpected happened.

Julian pulled his arm away.

Slowly but firmly, he forced himself to look away

from the vivid colors of her face.

He couldn’t deny that he was drawn to Brielle.

every time he looked at her.

In a world where everything else appeared in black.

and white, those sudden bursts of vivid color felt

like a lifeline to someone falling off a cliff.

Who wouldn’t cling to that?

And so, for the sake of Brielle, his personal

“miracle cure,” he’d hurt me again and again. without fully realizing how far he’d gone.

It wasn’t that he didn’t know I was suffering.

He’d simply taken advantage of my love, my guilt,

and the nearly ten years of history between us.

He’d treated me however he pleased because he

was certain I’d never leave.

But now that he couldn’t find me, Julian finally

realized that after all these years, I still held a

place in his heart that no one could replace.

He couldn’t bear the thought of losing me.

And so, for the first time, he said no to Brielle.

“I’m sorry, Brielle. I can’t go with you this time.”

“I’ll drive you to the base of Mount Norens before

my flight and arrange for a guide to take you to the

summit.”

Brielle’s smile froze.

She couldn’t believe that the tricks that had always

worked on Julian were suddenly failing her.

But he’d made up his mind. No amount of

pleading, pouting, or crying could persuade him to

stay.

Resentment and jealousy flashed across her face.

When she noticed him growing impatient, she knew better than to keep pushing. For the moment, she had no choice but to agree.

Early the next morning, Julian drove Brielle to Vessera Glacier National Park.

A staff member showed them the way to the visitor center near the Mount Norens glacier preserve, where they could hire a climbing guide.

But as they approached, Julian spotted someone familiar in the distance.

The woman was dressed in practical cold–weather gear, her hair pulled up into a bun to keep it out of

the way.

She was talking with someone near the research

area, looking completely at ease.

Julian’s eyes widened.

He instinctively started toward her, but a park

employee stopped him.

“Sorry, sir. That area is closed to visitors.”

Noticing that Julian couldn’t take his eyes off me, the employee assumed he was curious and offered an explanation.

“Those people are part of a glacier research team hired by Avelia. They’re here to monitor the glaciers and collect geological samples.”

Julian said nothing, his lips pressed tightly together.

He’d always believed I’d made up the whole research expedition just to compete with Brielle.

He’d never expected to see me here, actually

working with the team I’d told him about.

I hadn’t been lying.

And even back then, I’d already made up my mind

to leave him.
