The Man She Loved For Ten Years Let Her Father Die To Protect His Mistress Chapter 06

The Man She Loved For Ten Years Let Her Father Die To Protect His Mistress Chapter 06

For over half a month, Adrian heard nothing about me.

Not a single message. Not a single call. Even when he used Landon as an excuse, trying to draw me out

through him, I gave no response at all.

“Dad, where’s Mom? Why hasn’t she come to pick me up from school?”

Landon sat on the floor playing with a toy, but there was a note of hope in his voice. “Didn’t you tell her I was

sick?”

Then, as if the thought made him angrier the longer he sat with it, he threw the toy aside.

“My classmates keep saying my mom doesn’t want me anymore.”

He looked up, eyes turning red. “Dad, make Mom come back.”

From the side, Sienna watched the toy she had spent a fortune on get tossed aside like trash. A flicker of

resentment flashed across her face.

“Landon,” Adrian said sharply, bending down to pick the toy back up.

“Didn’t you say you were happier when Aunt Sienna picked you up? So why are you throwing a fit now? Is this

really how Evelyn raised you?”

The moment my name came up, the whole room went still.

Sienna was the first to break the silence. “Adrian, take Landon home first.”

“And you?” His heart jumped before he could stop it, but almost immediately, worry for Sienna replaced it.

“I’ll be fine.”

Sienna lowered her head. One tear after another fell onto the back of Adrian’s hand.

“I’ve made it through all these years already. A little hurt like this doesn’t matter.”

Guilt flashed across Landon’s face. “I’m sorry, Aunt Sienna. I promise I’ll come see you every day after school

from now on.”

Then, with the blind confidence of a child who still didn’t understand what he had done, he added, “Mom’s

just being petty. Once I cheer her up, she’ll be fine.”

On the drive back to the estate house, Landon couldn’t hide his excitement.

He kept fidgeting, then pulling graded assignments from his backpack to check them again, then putting

them back and taking them out once more.

“Dad,” he said, trying to sound mature, “Mom did go a little too far this time. But she cries easily. Be gentle

with her.”

Adrian only gave a quiet, absent-minded hum, but the corner of his mouth lifted in a small smile.

It vanished the moment they pulled up in front of the house.

The estate was unnaturally silent.

Dry leaves covered the front path.

The flowers in the garden beds, the ones I had always cared for myself, were all wilted and drooping.

Everything looked neglected, like no one had touched the place in a long time.

A chill ran through Adrian.

He bolted out into the rain and ran for the front door. Landon jumped out in hot pursuit.

The front door wasn’t locked.

Inside, the house was empty and damp, smelling faintly of mildew.

“Evelyn!”

Adrian shouted my name once from the foyer. No answer came from the first floor, so he ran upstairs, then higher, tearing through every room on the second and third floors.

Nothing.

No one.

“Dad!”

Landon came running up behind him, breathless and uneasy. “I think… I think Mom left this.”

The words divorce papers cut straight across Adrian’s vision.

His knees buckled, and he sank heavily to the floor.

Landon kept pressing him, voice rising in panic. “What did Mom say? Dad, say something!”

Adrian stared blankly at the papers in his hands. When he finally spoke, his voice was a hollow rasp.

“She doesn’t want you anymore.”

He swallowed hard.

“And… she doesn’t want me either.”

He should have been happy.

Evelyn was finally gone. She wouldn’t stand in the way of him and Sienna anymore.

So why did it feel like a cold iron vise was crushing his lungs?

Landon’s face went white in an instant. His fingers went slack, and the papers he had been holding slipped

free and scattered across the floor, revealing the last page in my handwriting.

“You’re lying,” he shouted, eyes flooding with tears. “Mom only had me. I’m her only family. How could she

not want me?”

Then he broke.

“I’m going to find her!”

He ran out into the rain sobbing, searching the entire grounds. He searched the garden, the lawn, the back

paths, even the bottom of the swimming pool.

He found nothing.

By the time he came down with a fever and passed out, he was still clutching that test paper with a 99% on

Even unconscious, he kept mumbling, “Mom, I got an A.”

His voice cracked into childish little sobs. “Why don’t you want me anymore? I was wrong, Mom… I miss

you.”

Adrian sat by Landon’s hospital bed, staring at nothing.

There was still a woman’s ring in his pocket.

I had left it beside the divorce papers.

When Sienna arrived, what she saw was a father and son who looked completely hollowed out.

She forced a smile onto her face. “Adrian… what you said before, does it still count?”

When he didn’t answer, when he only sat there looking dazed and broken, she could no longer hold back the

desperation in her voice.

“You’re regretting it, aren’t you?”

The tears in her eyes trembled but didn’t fall. “You said that once Evelyn agreed to the divorce, you’d marry

me.”

Adrian slowly turned to look at her.

The feeling he had once called love was simply… gone.

In its place was something colder. Something that watched instead of trusted.

He asked quietly, “Sienna, what exactly did you say to Evelyn that day? Why did she suddenly call you the one

who killed him?”

Then, after a beat, “And all these years… did your condition really never get any better?”

His voice cooled with every word.

“Did you truly see Evelyn as your best friend, the way you always claimed you

did?”
