The Major General Faked His Terminal Illness Chapter 05

No sooner had he picked up the phone than Luna snatched it 

from his hand. 

She pouted and tugged at his arm. “Gavin, I’m hungry. Could you get me some fruit first?” 

Gavin thought that since military affairs had been temporarily handed over and medical matters had been properly arranged, 

there should be no urgent matters to attend to, so he nodded 

and turned toward the dining area at the front of the cabin. 

By the time he returned with the fruit platter, the phone 

screen had already gone dark. 

Luna smiled sweetly as she handed the phone back. “It was an itinerary confirmation from your aide. I replied ‘Got it‘ for you.” 

Gavin didn’t suspect a thing; his gaze drifted out the porthole 

to the boundless sea of clouds. 

Yet somewhere deep inside, he felt inexplicably empty, as if a 

piece of him was missing. 

For a fortnight, he cut off most of his communication and 

devoted himself entirely to Luna. 

On the day of his return flight, even before the plane had touched down, he couldn’t wait to turn his phone back on and open the chat window he’d pinned to the top of his screen- one that had been silent for a long time. 

With his fingers hovering over the keyboard, he paused, then pressed the voice button instead. His voice carried a rare sense 

of urgency and a hint of barely perceptible anxiety: 

“Sienna, my treatment went very well, and I’m recovering even better than expected. I’ll be home today. Wait for me- I’ll bring you… your favorite chestnut cake.” 

One chestnut cake is certainly not enough. 

He immediately called his aide. 

“Arrange for someone to immediately refurbish and redecorate the house in the family housing area at JBAB, all 

based on Sienna’s previous preferences. Contact the 

Quartermaster Department and have a full set of new training 

uniforms and dress uniforms custom–made for her… Yes, 

based on her current measurements. Also, I remember she 

used to like that model of JLTV(Joint Light Tactical Vehicle)– 

find a way to get one transferred over.” 

“Also, transfer all of the assets in my name to Sienna’s name. 

Complete the paperwork as soon as possible.” 

Luna listened from the sidelines, digging her fingernails deep 

into the palms of her hands, jealousy winding around her 

heart like a poisonous vine. 

She forced a smile, but her voice sounded bitter: “You are so 

kind to my sister… I wish I’d met you first. Unlike me, who gets sent away whenever I make a mistake, no matter how spoiled Sienna is, You always have her back.” 

Gavin’s brows suddenly furrowed, and his tone grew somber: 

“Sienna has already been through enough. These past five years were a promise to you, but they were also meant to…” 

He paused, as if choosing his words carefully. “Let her find inner peace. I promised I’d treat you well, but there are some things that aren’t meant for you–so don’t even think about them.” 

He looked at Luna, his gaze as sharp as a drawn sword: 

“Mark my words: Sienna is the person I, Gavin Gray, vowed to protect under the flag. Everything the Gray family possesses belongs to her. I’ve kept my promise to you. Since Sienna doesn’t like you, I’ll arrange an apartment for you in the city 

when you return. You can move in there.” 

Luna’s face went pale in an instant, as if struck by an invisible blow, and tears welled up in her eyes: 

“Gavin… You don’t want me anymore? You promised me at 

my birthday party that you’d make my wish come true! How could you…” 

Gavin Gray’s expression grew even more stern: 

“I’ve never denied that you’re my adopted child, and I’ll 

continue to provide for you as always. I’ll still visit you 

whenever I can, and I’ll keep covering your expenses. But over 

the past five years, I’ve let Sienna down far too much. From 

now on, I won’t let her suffer any more injustices.” 

“She feels wronged? Don’t you think I feel wronged too!” 

Luna lost control of her emotions. She yanked the jade 

bracelet from her wrist, held it up before her eyes, and wept, “Look! This is the jade bracelet you gave me! You said it symbolizes recognition and heritage! Only a daughter–in–law 

of the Gray family is allowed to wear it! How can you not 

acknowledge me?” 

Seeing Luna’s agitated expression, Gavin Gray frowned 

deeply. 

For the first time, he felt with such clarity that he had never 

really seen this girl for who she truly was. 

“Luna,” he said coldly, enunciating each word clearly, “Take a good look. That pair of bracelets in your hand–I had them 

remade later, based on the original design. And also-” 

He paused briefly, and a fleeting, absurd chill flashed in his 

eyes. 

“You don’t really think I’d pass down the Gray family heirloom to you, do you?” 

“That’s a gift for my future partner. How could I possibly give it to anyone else?” 

The scorn in his voice felt like an invisible slap, striking Luna’s deathly pale face with force. 

“Enough is enough. This is getting ugly.” He looked away, his tone leaving no room for argument. “If you don’t want to live 

in an apartment in the city, I can arrange for you to settle abroad–life will go on as usual.” 

Luna slumped in her chair, her whole body feeling cold. 

She finally realized, in despair, that no matter how carefully she planned and maneuvered, there were certain innate bonds and a sense of belonging that she could never take away. 

Suddenly, she remembered the message from an unknown 

number that she had hastily deleted from Gavin Gray’s phone 

half a month ago, as well as the string of vicious taunts she 

had sent from her own phone afterward. 

A chill suddenly shot up her spine from the soles of her feet, 

causing her to shiver uncontrollably.
