The Mafia Princess Asked for a Beautiful Ashes Box Chapter 09

His fingers tightened around my phone until it seemed the screen might crack.

“How did this happen? Is Nina really dead? She killed herself?”

“Sir, I’m sorry for your loss…”

“Don’t say that! My sister can’t be dead!”

Dante broke down and ran for the door.

He made it only a few steps before his legs gave out and he collapsed.

When he opened his eyes again, two days had passed.

His consigliere had uncovered everything. Watching Dante carefully, the man spoke in a low voice.

“Don Russo, you were right to question what happened. Principessa Nina was innocent. Mia was the one who sold your mother’s crystal figurine. She has transferred money to the pawnbroker repeatedly over the past several years. The bank records prove it.”

He hesitated. “Mia is being held at the estate. What would you like us to do? Turn her over to the police?”

Dante stared hollowly at the hospital ceiling.

After a long silence, he said, “Bring her to me.”

The consigliere nodded and left. Less than half an hour later, Mia was escorted into the hospital room.

Her face was white, and sweat covered her forehead.

“Dante, please listen to me. I never thought Nina would die because of this. I only wanted you to hate her.”

Her voice shook. “I was wrong. Please don’t be angry. I swear I’ll never do anything like it again.”

Dante rose from the bed without a word and stopped in front of her.

Mia’s chest heaved.

“I know I was wrong. Please forgive me. I wanted her gone, but I never wanted her dead.”

Dante’s palm cracked across her face.

She staggered sideways. “Dante…”

He grabbed her by the collar and pulled her close.

“You ruined her life,” he hissed. “You spread lies about her. You made sure she couldn’t find a job. You humiliated her, forced her to drink, stole from her, and cost her job after job. And now she’s dead—because of you.”

He released her with a shove.

“There are plenty of ways to make you pay. You have no idea what I’m capable of.”

His voice dropped to a cold whisper.

“I’m sending you overseas, somewhere no one will ever find you. And you, my dear, will spend the rest of your life in hell.”

Dante turned and walked out, leaving Mia crumpled on the floor.

He went straight to the memorial shop.

But he was too late. The urn I had chosen had already been sold.

He begged the owner in desperation.

“I’ll pay ten times the price. No, a hundred times. Whatever you want.”

“Please. Just sell me that urn. I’m begging you.”
