The Mafia Don’s Broken Wife Chapter 07

The Mafia Don’s Broken Wife Chapter 07

Kyle froze when he saw my cancer diagnosis on the entryway table.

He rubbed his eyes hard, shock and pain written all over his face.

I never tried to hide my illness.

I’d been nauseous countless times, my stomach aching so badly I could barely stand.

He never noticed.

The report had been sitting there for days.

He’d never bothered to glance at it.

Every time I tried to talk to him, he either cut me off or snapped at me.

Eventually, I stopped trying.

Kyle stared at the paper, muttering, “No way. Lila’s not sick.”

I shook my head at him. “Kyle, anyone can get sick.”

He walked upstairs in a daze.

Everything looked the same-except our photos were gone.

I had taken them down one by one.

He was never home, so he didn’t notice.

His assistant kept calling, the ringtone sharp and relentless.

He didn’t answer a single one.

This bedroom held our happiest memories-and my worst breakdowns.

We met in college.

I stayed by his side through his hardest years.

Later, he became the cold, ruthless head of the Voss crime family.

And I became a rising actress everyone watched.

Then… things changed.

I blamed the world.

I blamed myself for not being enough.

But I could never blame him.

I couldn’t let go of the boy who once loved me so much.

So I fought.

I argued.

I held on with everything I had.

Now Kyle looked just like I used to-curling up on our bed, sleepless, exhausted.

He tried to call me, only to realize he didn’t even have my number.

The last time he spoke to me was from a public payphone.

He whispered, “Lila… are you okay?”

The doorbell rang.

Property staff stood outside, holding a huge pile of flowers from my fans.

I was surprised-there were still people who loved me.

I recorded that farewell message just to say goodbye-to the world, to my career, to everyone who had ever supported me.

Seeing those flowers, I felt a flicker of warmth.

But Kyle broke down.

He kicked the flowers over, screaming like a madman.

“She’s not dead! How dare you curse her! I’ll kill all of you!”

His assistant rushed in. “Mr. Voss, we found her.”

Kyle went still. Hope flashed in his eyes.

“You found her? Take me to her. Tell her to stop playing this game. It’s not funny.”

“I know I was wrong. I shouldn’t have ignored her. I shouldn’t have treated her like a bet…”

He collapsed, sobbing.

The assistant hesitated, then handed him the death report and my note.

“Mr. Voss… she’s gone. Villagers near the filming site found her and sent her to the funeral home.”

“She only had one note on her: ‘I died of natural causes. If I caused any trouble, I’m sorry. Please call the number below to arrange cremation. Scatter my ashes in the ocean. You will be

compensated.’”

Kyle could barely stand.

The assistant continued, calm and steady.

“The funeral home contacted the police. The coroner confirmed natural causes-officially cancer, consistent with the message she left. By the time we arrived, her body had already been cremated. The villagers were going to scatter her ashes at sea, but we stopped them.”

Kyle clutched the urn and my note, his voice shaking violently.

“Why didn’t she write anything about me? Not even one word?”

The assistant fell silent.

Kyle grabbed his collar, screaming, “It’s fake! Tell me it’s fake!”

I looked at him coldly.

“Why did you only regret it after I was gone? Why did you only love me after I died?”

Kyle suddenly went quiet, as if he felt something.

He held the urn tighter.

“Lila… is that you? Come out. Please. Stop hiding.”

Only silence answered him.

Elara pushed through the crowd, barely hiding her excitement.

“Kyle, I heard the news. Is Lila really dead? It’s all my fault. If I’d let her hit me, you wouldn’t have punished her-”

“It’s your stupid betting games that made me ignore her until she was dying!” Kyle roared, his hands clamping around her throat.

“You bitch! I’ll kill you!”

Elara struggled, her face turning red.

Security rushed in and pulled Kyle away before things got worse.

“Mr. Voss, there are reporters here. If you attack her in public, we’re finished.”

Right then, a new scandal exploded online.

A young Oscar-nominated actress, Lila Voss, forced into adult films-the truth revealed.

My fans found witnesses.

Recordings were leaked.

I was forced to shoot those films.

Kyle had signed the contracts, putting the entire Voss Group on the line.

If I refused, he would’ve lost everything.

He promised to destroy the footage before it leaked.

Now the truth was out.

The one who leaked the videos was Elara.

She had planned to destroy me from the start.

After being blacklisted, I devoted myself to charity.

When I learned I was dying, I donated all my savings to build schools for underprivileged children.

Those who insulted me online started apologizing.

Netizens dug up every bet between Kyle and Elara-canceled weddings, forced abortion,

everything.

Public outrage exploded.

Boycotts hit both Kyle and Elara.

The Voss family’s wealth and influence collapsed overnight.

Fans surrounded the mansion, shouting insults.

“Trash! Homewrecker!”

Kyle had bodyguards protecting him.

The crowd turned on Elara.

She screamed, “Kyle, help me!”

But he didn’t even look at her.

He held my urn and walked back inside.

Elara cried out desperately, “I’m carrying your child! You can’t leave me!”

Her words only made the crowd angrier.

“She’s pregnant with the mob boss’s kid? No wonder she killed his wife!”

When she finally broke free from the mob, the police stopped her.

“Miss Elara Grant, you are under arrest for identity fraud and conspiracy.”
