The Mafia Don Rejected Her… Then Learned She Was Dying Chapter 09

Alexander froze.

His lips parted, but no words came out.

I looked at the color draining from his face and offered a small explanation.

“I’m sick. My memory’s gotten really bad. There are a lot of things I can’t remember anymore.”

His eyes turned red instantly.

He took several shaky breaths before finally managing to speak.

“Serafina…” His voice was rough with emotion. “I’m Alexander. Your brother.”

“Alexander?”

The name sounded familiar.

I’d seen it in my notes.

There was a line I’d written to myself:

[Alexander is important. Don’t forget him.]

Alexander braced himself against the wall before slowly making his way toward me.

His steps were unsteady.

“Hey,” he said softly. His trembling hand came up to brush a strand of hair away “Don’t be scared, Serafina. Let me take you to Professor Strucker, okay?”

from

my

face.

I nodded.

“Okay. Professor Strucker said Felix would come pick me up.”

“Of course.”

Alexander swallowed hard and turned his face away before I could see the emotion threatening to break through.

At the hospital, Professor Strucker spoke privately with him.

“Miss Moretti is currently experiencing intermittent memory loss. She may occasionally recover

fragments of memories, but as the disease progresses, the deterioration will become increasingly

severe.”

The doctor paused.

“Eventually, she will forget everything and everyone.”

His expression darkened.

“And unfortunately, the process is irreversible.”

Alexander felt as though an invisible hand had wrapped around his heart and squeezed.

He could barely breathe.

Never, not once, had he imagined a future where Serafina forgot him completely.

Beside him, Felix stood silently, watching me cooperate obediently through the examination room

window.

Professor Strucker rested a hand on Alexander’s shoulder.

“The truth is, family members often focus on their own fear. But for the patient, losing control of

their memories is far more terrifying.”

He sighed.

“No one wants to wake up in a world that feels completely empty.”

Alexander closed his eyes.

For a long time, he said nothing.

When he finally spoke, his voice trembled.

“I respect Serafina’s decision.”

His throat tightened.

“And I support the treatment.”

The day of the procedure arrived.

As nurses prepared to wheel me into surgery, Alexander refused to let go of my hand.

His grip was tight.

Almost desperate.

“Don’t be afraid, sweetheart.”

His voice cracked.

“Just think of it as taking a nap. I’ll be right outside waiting for you.”

Seeing how nervous he was actually made me smile.

“Alex.”

I squeezed his fingers.

“I’m the one having surgery. Why do you look more scared than I am?”

A broken laugh escaped him.

“I’m not scared.”

His eyes glistened.

“You’re coming back to me safe and sound. I know you are.”

After saying goodbye to everyone, I was wheeled into the operating room.

The doors slowly closed behind me.

Alexander immediately turned toward the medical staff.

“How long will it take?”

Tommy checked the schedule.

“Approximately four to five hours.”

Alexander nodded stiffly.

Then he quietly said,

“Take me to a church.”

The small chapel nearby was nearly empty.

Alexander lit a candle.

Then another.

And another.

For days, this had become the only thing he could do.

Pray.

Every prayer was the same.

Please let Serafina live.

Please let her be healthy.

Please let her be safe.

If she forgot him forever, so be it.

As long as she stayed alive.

As long as she had a future.

There was still hope.

He would trade everything he owned for that.

His fortune.

His power.

His empire.

Even his life.

Alexander lowered himself to his knees and bowed his head deeply before the altar.

When he finally left and headed back toward the treatment center, a small silver crucifix remained

clenched tightly in his hand.

His silent prayers continued.

Then disaster struck.

hout warning.

“Boss!”

Tommy jerked the wheel.

The first collision was avoided.

But a second SUV slammed into them from behind.

The impact was devastating.

Everything went black.

Several men climbed out of the vehicles.

Armed with steel bats and clubs, they rushed toward Alexander’s car and began smashing the windows.
