The Luna Who Owed Them Nothing Chapter 05

Mom opens the acceptance letter and stares at the words Royal Fang Academy clearly displayed on the screen.

She freezes.

Eden bites her lip hard, barely able to contain her resentment and jealousy.

“It has to be AI-generated, right? She’s always been a liar!”

But the moment she finishes speaking, Mom suddenly throws off her blanket, yanks the IV needle from the back of her hand, and rushes out of the room.

“Lily!”

Dad immediately runs after her.

As he presses the elevator button, he asks anxiously, “How did Aria end up in a car accident?”

Only Damon and Eden remain in the hospital room.

They exchange a glance before quickly following.

The elevator is packed with people on the weekend.

Mom’s ward is on the sixth floor, while the emergency room is on the second. The elevator stops at almost every floor, slowly wearing down everyone’s patience and turning their initial panic into

mounting anxiety.

Mom keeps opening the acceptance letter and the diner’s security footage on her phone, muttering

to herself.

“Eden is right. It must be AI-generated. The phone call… maybe that was fake too! She must have hired someone to pull some kind of prank on us, right?”

She looks up and grabs the hem of Dad’s shirt, her eyes filled with desperation, as if she can convince herself that everything is fake as long as he agrees.

Dad looks down at her desperately searching for excuses, even willing to deceive herself just to

avoid facing the truth.

In the end, he only sighs, “We’ll know when we get there.”

Mom nods helplessly.

Ever since she receives that phone call, her mind has been in turmoil. A vague, inexplicable sense

of unease gnaws at her, slowly eating away at the last of her composure.

Finally, the elevator reaches the second floor.

Mom pushes through the crowd and runs toward the emergency room like a woman losing her

mind.

She does not stop until she sees the electronic screen above the emergency room.

Her feet suddenly freeze.

A name she knows better than anyone is displayed in bright red.

It is the name she gives her daughter herself.

And now, it hangs above the emergency room where her daughter is fighting for her life, the red letters painfully bright.

Mom’s face turns deathly pale. She hurriedly grabs a pack doctor who is about to enter the emergency room, “Doctor, what happened?”

The pack doctor stops, “Who are you?”

“I’m Aria Langley’s mother!” she says quickly. “I’m Lily, the Luna of the neighboring pack. She’s my daughter!”

The pack doctor gives her a suspicious look.

“The patient briefly regained consciousness earlier. As part of our routine, we asked if she had any family. She said she had no one.”

Mom’s legs give out, and tears immediately spill down her cheeks.

Fortunately, Dad catches her in time.

“We really are Aria’s parents,” Dad says, forcing himself to stay calm. “How is she now?”

Seeing that their concern seems genuine, the pack doctor nods, “She’s still in surgery. Her

condition is not looking good. We’ll do everything we can.”

With that, he turns and goes back into the emergency room.

All the color drains from Mom’s face as she grips Dad’s wrist tightly.

“Seth, how did this happen? Our daughter… how did she end up in a car accident?”

Ever since Aria stole that money at eight years old, Mom has refused to acknowledge her as her daughter.

But only now does she suddenly realize that perhaps she never hated Aria as much as she thought she did.

Because right now, what truly terrifies her is losing her.

Dad is silent for a moment before asking, “What exactly happened today?”

He spends the day handling pack affairs in the Alpha’s office until he suddenly receives news that

Mom has collapsed and rushes to the hospital. Later, Damon tells him that Aria is the one who made Mom faint. Worried about his wife’s condition, Dad does not ask any further questions.

After Mom wakes up, he receives the call about Aria’s accident.

Everything happens too quickly. Until now, he does not even know how things have gotten this far.

Mom’s lips tremble, and her voice is barely audible, “I… I went to that diner. I found the owner,

Gamma Luke.”

Dad’s brows immediately draw together, and his voice rises without him realizing it, “What did you

go there for?”

“I was afraid she would go down the wrong path, so I went to check on her.”

Mom hurriedly explains, “I never thought something like this would happen…”

Just then, Damon arrives with Eden.

Seeing the tears covering Mom’s face, Damon quickly comforts her.

“Dad, it’s not Mom’s fault. Aria brought this on herself. She’s always been tough. I’m sure she’ll be

fine this time too.”

Dad and Mom both look at him. Their lips move, but in the end, neither of them says anything.

“Forget it.”

Dad lowers his head, his voice exhausted, “We’ll talk about everything after Aria comes out safely.”

The four of them sit outside the emergency room, waiting from daylight until nightfall.

At one point, Eden rubs her stomach and quietly says she is hungry.

She expects her parents, who have always spoiled her, to take her out for food like they usually do.

But this time, Mom only responds absentmindedly, “Have a piece of bread for now.”

Dad does not even hear her.

In the end, Damon feels sorry for his sister and goes downstairs himself to buy Eden a sandwich.

Not long after, Dad suddenly receives a phone call.

Whatever he hears on the other end makes his expression grow darker by the second.

After hanging up, his hand gripping the phone is even trembling slightly.

Knowing they are in a pack hospital, he deliberately lowers his voice, but the anger he can barely

contain is still clear to everyone.

“Why did the $20,000 I gave Aria for tuition turn out to be counterfeit?!”
