The Luna They Buried Too Soon Chapter 03

The Luna They Buried Too Soon Chapter 03

A loud banging on my door woke me up, so loud the whole wall shook.

“Miss Arabella! You up yet? You really gonna act like you’re Luna around here?”

The hard wooden bed and unfamiliar room meant I’d barely slept a wink all night.

“Yeah, I’m up.”

I swung the door open and sure enough there was Violet Ellington, the maid with that same sour look I

remembered. Disgust was still plastered all over her face, and her voice was cold enough to freeze.

“Quit dragging your feet and get to breakfast! You think you’re still Luna? Gonna make everyone wait on

you?”

Six years later, she still couldn’t stand me.

Violet had taken care of Serena Blackwood since she was a kid. She never had any children of her own, so

she’d treated the Duskhowl Pack Alpha’s two kids like they were her own flesh and blood.

But Serena wasn’t the real Alpha princess. She was just my replacement.

Back when I, the Alpha’s real daughter, first was found and brought home, she’d dumped a bucket of vegetable wash water all over me right

Auto-added to the Library

She said I should’ve just died out there me arcady gotten to my’d I have to come back and steal

Serena’s spot?

I didn’t have the energy to argue with her. The pain from my cancer crashed over me, sharp and unrelenting.

Every breath felt like a knife stabbing through my chest.

When I got to the dining room, Serena was sitting right between Atticus and Elena. Her face was flushed as

she ate the sandwich Atticus was feeding her.

“Atticus bear.”

The second she saw me, her eyes went wide with panic.

“Arabella! You’re back!” She stammered. “Are you mad at me? I had no choice but to bond with Atticus bear

back then, I swear!”

“If only…”

Screeeech-

The sound of a chair scraping across the floor made my ears ring.

“Mad? You said you two are soulmates, right? Why the hell would I be mad?” I shot back, my voice sharp.

The second the words left my mouth, Serena’s eyes turned red, like she was about to cry.

Atticus slammed his fork and knife down on the table, his face dark as a storm.

“Arabella, either eat or get out. Nobody’s forcing you to stay.”

I let out a bitter, mocking laugh, sat down with a cold face, and ignored the three of them.

I took a bite of a sandwich, but the sickly-sweet taste of ketchup hit my stomach like a punch. I lurched up,

pushed my chair back, and ran to the bathroom, heaving my guts out.

“Sis… could you be pregnant?” Serena’s voice came from behind, all fake concern.

I splashed cold water on my face, shivering from the chill. Of course she’d twist things around. She always

did.

She’d cut my tendons ’cause she was jealous of my talent. She’d framed me for being pregnant ’cause she

was scared I’d ruin her status.

Her tricks were cheap, but people still bought them.

Sure enough, Atticus frowned the second he heard her, his eyes dripping with disgust.

“Arabella, you’re such a slut.”

A bitter laugh bubbled up in my chest. A slut? Who was the one who turned me into this?

Who threw me into a nightclub and let every random male werewolf humiliate me?

“None of your business.” I muttered.

Atticus let out an angry huff, threw one last comment over his shoulder, and stormed off.

“Do whatever the hell you want.”

I went back to the table and sat down again. Elena’s little voice piped up, innocent but cruel.

“Aunt Serena, that ugly woman doesn’t deserve to play piano with you! I saw her hands. They’re so gross!”

That little kid’s voice felt like a needle stabbing straight through my heart.

This pup was once the gift from the Moon Goddess that I cherished more than anything. I almost lost this pup when Serena poisoned me with wolfsbane soup. Then my wolf Vivian sacrificed her life force to save

her.

I’d lost my wolf for her. Disappointment and sorrow washed over me, thick and heavy. I forced a bitter smile.
