The Loser Ex-Wife Came Back Hot Chapter 43

Waiting for a moment when no one was paying attention, Sylvie slipped out into the courtyard and frantically dialed Caleb Langdon’s number.

On the other end of the line, Caleb sounded incredibly annoyed. “What is it?”

“Caleb, when you come over later, could you please bring some lobster and caviar?”

“Lobster and caviar?”

Caleb frowned. “Didn’t you prepare any food?”

“Everyone suddenly said they wanted lobster, caviar, Wagyu beef, and foie gras. I have no idea where to find any of that, so…”

Sylvie’s voice dripped with practiced, pitiful vulnerability.

Caleb went silent for a moment before letting out a heavy breath. “I’ll figure something out.”

Hearing this, a flash of relief crossed Sylvie’s eyes. Softening her tone, she cooed, “Thank you, Caleb. I really don’t know what I’d do without you…”

Sylvie was so entirely focused on erasing her classmates’ suspicions that she completely missed the underlying exhaustion in Caleb’s voice.

Not too far away, Nova leaned against the doorframe, watching Sylvie sneakily beg Caleb for help in the courtyard. She couldn’t help but smile, a wry arch to her brow.

She thought Sylvie might actually have a clever backup plan, but she was just running to

Caleb as usual.

If this were the past, Caleb would have just thrown money at the problem and solved it instantly.

But things were different now.

The Donald family had withdrawn their investments, and The Langdon Corporation was teetering on the edge of total collapse.

The Langdons simply didn’t have the cash flow to let Caleb play sugar daddy anymore.

Just then, Nova’s phone began to ring.

Seeing the caller ID, a slow, predatory smirk touched her lips.

It seemed even fate was on her side today.

Nova answered the call. On the other end, Mrs. Langdon sounded incredibly anxious, completely dropping her usual arrogance. “Nova, sweetie, are you free today?”

“Mrs. Langdon, is there something you need?”

“I’ve just missed you so much! I’d love to treat you to a nice meal today. Do you think you could come over and visit?”

Hearing the desperation in Mrs. Langdon’s tone, Nova instantly knew exactly what she was playing at.

She glanced up at Sylvie, who was still waiting out in the courtyard for her supposed savior. “Is Caleb there too?”

“Of course he is! Caleb misses you terribly as well. He feels awful about offending you last time, and I’ve told him he needs to give you a proper apology today.”

“Is that so…” Nova chuckled softly. “Sure. Shall we meet later?”

“Later?”

“Yeah,” Nova said smoothly. “I have some plans for tonight, so let’s do lunch. I’ll head over

soon.”

“But…”

“What’s wrong? Is that inconvenient for you, Mrs. Langdon? If it’s a hassle, we can just forget

it.”

“No, no, no! Not inconvenient at all! Not at all!”

Mrs. Langdon let out a nervous, strained laugh. “Then I’ll get started on lunch right away and wait for you.”

“Perfect.”

Nova hung up, a cold sneer forming in her mind.

Mrs. Langdon was notoriously greedy and manipulative.

For her to invite Nova over in such a frantic rush, something massive must have finally fractured within the Langdon family’s finances.

Taking her time, Nova casually strolled back into the living room.

It was nearing noon, and everyone’s stomachs were rumbling. Sylvie was still staring eagerly

out the window, desperately waiting for Caleb to arrive with the groceries.

Finally, someone couldn’t hold it in anymore. “Sylvie, I’m starving to death. When are we going to eat?”

“Yeah, it’s almost twelve. Are we still getting that feast or what?”

Complaints were beginning to ripple through the room.

Sylvie forced a tight smile. “Soon, it’ll be here soon. Let me just call and check.”

Pulling out her phone, Sylvie immediately dialed Caleb’s number again. But the line was

completely busy, ringing out with no answer.
