The Last Time He Touched Me Chapter 05

The Last Time He Touched Me Chapter 05

Damien walks in wearing a dark gray overcoat draped loosely over his arm, every movement casual yet

refined, carrying the weight of someone born to power.

Lindsey is beside him, holding onto his arm, smiling gently.

Damien hears the voice and turns slightly His gaze lands on Kyle, and he gives a faint nod.

“Long time no see, Jameson. Here for business?”

Kyle smiles and shakes his head, then glances toward me, slightly embarrassed.

“My father set me up on a blind date. Insisted I come.”

Damien follows his line of sight.

His deep green eyes land on my face.

For a split second, he freezes.

“You said… she is your blind date?”

Kyle nods, still confused.

“Yeah. Why? Do you know Ms. Mercer too?”

Damien withdraws his gaze from me. His expression turns cold, as if frost has settled between his brows.

“No.”

Whether intentional or not, Damien chooses the table right next to ours, separated only by a low half-wall

partition.

When he sits down, his coat is casually placed over the chair. His profile faces me directly.

Lindsey leans close to his ear and says something. He nods occasionally, but his eyes never come this way.

I look away and take a sip of water.

“Ms. Mercer?”

Kyle’s voice pulls me back.

“Oh, sorry. What did you say?”

“I was saying,” Kyle smiles politely, “if we get married in the future, would you be okay with me bringing

my parents to live with us so I can take care of them?”

I choke slightly on the question.

Isn’t this moving a bit too fast?

I am still thinking how to respond when a dull thud comes from the next table.

A chair scrapes loudly against the partition, shaking the flowers on top of it.

Everyone turns to look.

Damien is bent down picking up a napkin. His chair has somehow shifted half a step toward our side.

Lindsey grabs his arm.

“What is it?”

“Nothing.” He straightens up. “The chair slipped.”

The waiter quickly comes over to fix it. I silently curse him in my head.

After dinner, Kyle leaves early due to work.

I stand outside the restaurant, about to call a ride, when a familiar Maybach pulls up in front of me.

Damien rolls down the window. His sharp features are half-lit in the streetlight.

“What, Ms. Mercer? Your date didn’t bother to send you home?”

I catch the sarcasm in his tone and snap back.

“When did I miss the fact that Don Grimholt talks this much?”

Damien pauses for a fraction of a second, then rolls the window back up.

The car speeds off.

During lunch break, I sit at the café downstairs from the station eating a salad when Lindsey joins me

uninvited.

“Something wrong?”

She stirs her coffee lightly.

“Not really. I just wanted to tell you something. Damien and I are getting engaged next month.”

My hand pauses for a second before I continue eating.

“Oh. Congratulations.”

Lindsey frowns slightly, as if my calm reaction disappoints her.

“I heard Damien even left you a guest room in his house.”

“He told you he is a light sleeper, right?” she says with a small smile. “That is not true. He only said that because he promised me he would only ever sleep holding me in his arms.”

My grip tightens on the fork.

Hook up.

“Is that so? But he also stent with me for years. What’s the difference?”

Slap.

A sharp pain explodes across my face.

Lindsey stands up, furious.

“You just took advantage while I was abroad. You shameless bitch!”

I don’t back down. I grab my coffee and throw it straight at her face.

She screams as the white dress is instantly stained.

I raise my hand to strike back-

But my wrist is suddenly caught in a firm grip.
