Chloe’s POV

With only a week left before my resignation, I never expected Serena to come looking for me.

Inside the cafe, she cut straight to the chase.

“You’re the bedmate who’s been with Julian for five years, aren’t you?”

In the moment I froze, she had already pulled a clear ziplock bag from her purse.

Inside it was a single strand of light brown hair.

“I found this in the guest bedroom at Julian’s house.

“Since the day I joined the company, I’ve been comparing it against every female employee.

“Today, I finally found the right person.”

I opened my mouth, instinctively wanting to explain.

The next second, a splash of ice–cold coffee hit me right in the face.

The coffee dripped down my cheeks, the freezing liquid seeping into my collar.

Serena stood straight up and slapped me hard across the face.

“Are you really that cheap?”

I raised a hand to wipe the wetness from my face, and just as I was about to slap her back, my wrist was caught in mid–air.

I looked up, meeting a dark, profound gaze.

The ring on Julian’s hand was already gone.

“Get in the car first, I’ll handle this,” he said gently to a red–eyed Serena beside him.

Serena sniffled, her voice on the verge of tears.

“Julian, you bastard! We had barely been broken up for six months, and you already found someone else!

“If she hadn’t come to provoke me today, were you planning to hide this from me for the rest of your life?”

After shooting me a resentful glare, Serena left.

Julian’s gaze settled back onto me.

The second our eyes met, a quiet, oppressive pressure brewed in his

gaze.

“Didn’t I tell you never to let her know about our relationship?”

“She came to me first,” I said calmly, pulling my hand from his grasp. “I’ve just been waiting for someone at the cafe.”

A look of suspicion crossed his face.

He clearly didn’t believe me.

I let out a mocking laugh.

“Julian, did you forget that today is the day you set me up on a blind date?”

I glanced up at the car that had just parked outside the window.

“If nothing goes wrong, my blind date should be walking in right about now.”

Julian’s breath hitched, his face instantly draining of color.

“Then enjoy your date.”

There was a faint hint of gritted teeth in his words.

Noticing my soaked shirt, Julian took off his overcoat, draped it over my shoulders, and strode away.
