Over the next few days, Damon didn’t come home until the middle of the night.

Every single time, he was drunk.

His cheeks were flushed, his steps unsteady, and he kept leaning against me for support.

He also talked in his sleep.

“Why don’t you like me anymore?”

“Did you fall for someone else?”

“What’s that guy got that I don’t?”

There were plenty more like that.

After I got him settled into bed, I stepped onto the balcony and let the cold night air wash over me.

So, the person Damon liked didn’t like him back?

So what? He didn’t like me either.

Still, him coming home drunk every night couldn’t go on like this.

A few days later, Damon was getting ready to head out again.

I stood in the doorway and blocked his path.

Before I could say anything, the gloom on his face disappeared. His eyes lit up.

“I knew it.” He smiled. “You’re still clingy after all.”

“I’m not drinking tonight. I’m just meeting a friend.”

“I’ll be back soon. If you miss me, just call.”

As soon as he finished, he leaned down, aiming for my lips.

I quietly turned my face away.

He frowned, confusion flickering in his eyes.

“Don’t you always kiss me before I leave?”

You didn’t get one these past few days either.

I hurried to explain.

“From now on, we don’t have to kiss every time you leave or come home.”

He was already so busy with work.

Coming home every day only to deal with my unreasonable neediness had to be exhausting.

But instead of easing, his frown only deepened.

“So this is how you’re punishing me.”

He straightened up, his face was completely unreadable.

“Fine. Have it your way.”
