The Hundred Missions Were Just Their Love Game Chapter 10

Nina lost the baby. The doctor said the trauma and emotional shock had caused the miscarriage.

When Nina woke up in her hospital bed, the police were waiting outside.

On the day she was discharged, she was handcuffed and taken into custody. As she passed me, she

suddenly stopped.

“Valery, I lost. But I won’t accept this.”

I didn’t look at her.

My mom came to see me later. She got down on her knees and begged me to help Nina get a lighter

sentence.

I refused. Instead, I told her I was cutting her out of my life for good. From that day on, we were no longer

family.

Gavin and I scheduled our wedding for a month later.

The sun was bright that day. Gavin stood beneath the floral arch in a dark gray suit, waiting for me.

As I walked toward him with my arm linked through his, a breeze swept through the venue and carried a few

petals onto my veil.

“Valery, from the moment I first saw you, I knew you were the woman I’d been waiting for.”

He took my hand, then gently slipped the ring onto my finger.

I looked up at him. His eyes were bright, and I was the only person reflected in them.

Grandma had been right. She’d always been a good judge of character. Gavin was the man who would stay

by my side for the rest of my life.

After the wedding, I found some time to visit the hospital.

Joel lay in his hospital bed, looking much thinner than before, but his breathing was steady.

I sat beside him for a while without saying a word. Then I placed a magnolia blossom I’d brought back from

my wedding beside his pillow.

I stood up, turned around, and never looked back.
