The Heiress You Threw Away Chapter 05

The Heiress You Threw Away Chapter 05

Third-Person POV

Dante raced to the airport just as dawn broke.

The terminal was crowded with travelers. He dialed Elena’s number over and over. Only the robotic

voicemail greeting.

Luca followed behind him. His face was ashen. “She couldn’t have really left. She has nowhere else

to go.”

The moment he said it, he froze.

Yeah. Her lover and her family had all wounded her. Where else could she go?

The airport PA system crackled to life. The flight to Helsinki had already departed.

Dante stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows. His eyes slowly reddened.

He pulled out his phone. He opened that secretly filmed video. He watched it for one second. Then

he shut it off like it had burned him.

Luca suddenly grabbed him by the collar. “Who actually sent that video out?”

Dante’s eyes went dark. “I didn’t send it. I regretted it the moment I filmed it. Sophia borrowed my

phone that day.”

The two men looked at each other. Then they both turned and bolted for the hospital.

In the hospital room, Sophia was putting a cold compress on her face.

When she saw them, she immediately put on a wounded look. “Where did you two go? My face is so

swollen. It hurts.”

Luca walked over and snatched her phone out of her hand.

Sophia’s face went pale. “What are you doing?”

Her photo album contained a hidden forwarding history. Screenshots of chats

[Post the photos to the school forum. Put her phone number and email address out there too.)

Dante read the last line. The veins on the back of his hands bulged. “You sent those men after her.”

Sophia burst into sobs. “I just wanted her gone. She should never have come back! You two used to only care about me. Why did you both start looking at her the moment she showed up?”

Luca stared at her. His voice came out hoarse. “So you dropped the pendant on purpose too?”

Sophia bit her lip and didn’t say a word.

Luca suddenly raised his hand and slapped himself across the face.

Everyone in the room froze.

It was like he’d just woken up.

From the moment Elena had entered the D’Amato Family, he’d pinned every ounce of his pain on

hher.

He’d locked her in the cellar. He’d stolen her mother’s keepsake. He’d even destroyed it with his

oown hands.

What had Elena ever actually done?

DDante dialed his consigliere. “Bring in everyone involved in spreading those photos. Make sure they

dearn their lesson. And the men Sophia hired. Don’t let a single one get away.”

Sophia’s face went bloodless. “Dante, you can’t do this to me. We grew up together.”

DBante looked at her. His eyes were utterly cold. “Then you should know better than anyone. I hate it

when people try to play me.”

soppia a shrieked. “You’re heartbroken now? You’re the one who filmed the video! When Luca told

you to deceive her, didn’t you agree?”

those words sticed into both of them like a blade.

The first time Elena had called his name. Her voice had been so small.

That day he’d locked her outside. Her face had been pale from the cold. But she’d still tried to hand him her scarf. “Luca, it’s cold out there.”

Later, when he’d had a fever, Elena had secretly left a bowl of oatmeal outside his door. He’d thought it was disgusting. He’d thrown it away, bowl and all.

But the next day, a fresh cup of warm milk would always show up in the kitchen.

Luca closed his eyes. His voice cracked. “Dig it up. Find out the truth about what happened with

Elena’s mother back then.”

Two days later, the truth was placed in front of him.

When Elena’s mother and Don Salvatore had fallen in love, Don Salvatore hadn’t been married.

The D’Amato Family had forced them apart for a political alliance.

After Don Salvatore married, the woman discovered she was pregnant.

She didn’t cause a scene. She didn’t demand money. She raised Elena all on her own.

And Luca’s mother-she hadn’t committed suicide because of an affair. She’d suffered from

long-term depression.

What truly destroyed her was Don Salvatore’s cold indifference and the D’Amato Family’s control.

Luca finished the files. He felt completely hollowed out.

He sat in the study from dusk until deep into the night.

On his desk lay a photocopy of Elena’s mother’s diary.

The last page read: [If one day Elena returns to the D’Amato Family, I hope they won’t make things

hard for her. The child is innocent.]

Luca buried his face in his hands. His shoulders heaved violently. “I’m so sorry, Elena. I’m so

sorry.”
