The Fortune Teller Said I Was Bad Luck, I Brought Them Worse Chapter 10

I stayed under the locust tree until afternoon.

The sun moved from east to west, shadows stretching long, then shrinking, then stretching again. People wandered through the commercial district, couples holding hands, moms pushing strollers, elderly men walking dogs. A normal day, ordinary life.

My phone stayed off.

It wasn’t until dusk that I turned it on. Hundreds of missed calls, countless messages and texts poured in. I didn’t read a single one. I dialed a number directly.

“Hello, Ms. Bennett? This is Isabella. I need advice on property transfer.”

Rachel Bennett, my university classmate and a civil law specialist, was silent for a moment after hearing my situation.

“Isabella… are you sure about this? That house, though you paid the down payment, is registered in your brother’s name, and he’s been paying the mortgage for two years. If you go to court, you may not get it all back.”

“I’ll take whatever I can get,” I said. “I need to draw a line.”

“Even the money you spent on his car, the wedding expenses you covered…”

“Everything must be accounted for.” I stared at the orange-red sunset. “Rachel, draft an agreement. I want him to list every penny I’ve spent on him over the years, sign it, acknowledge it.”

“How he repays me can be negotiated later, but I need proof that I’m not obligated to give endlessly.”

“Understood… Isabella, are you okay?”

“I’ve never been better,” I said.

I hung up, brushed the dust off my clothes, and headed home.
