The Fortune Teller Said I Was Bad Luck, I Brought Them Worse Chapter 03

At exactly 7:00 a.m., I called Mr. Jones at The Ashford Grand Hotel.

“Good morning, Ms. Morgan! We’re setting up the banquet hall. Do you want to come take a look?” His voice was cheerful, full of energy.

“Mr. Jones, I’m sorry, I have something urgent today. I won’t be coming,” I said evenly, even with a hint of a smile.

“What? You’re not coming to the wedding? But… what if any adjustments are needed for the setup?”

“No adjustments. Stick to the plan we confirmed yesterday,” I said, glancing out the window. The sky was clear; it was a beautiful day. “As for the remaining balance, have the groom settle it. Yes, Gavin Harlow, the groom today.”

“Ms. Morgan… but you signed the contract, and the balance was agreed to be paid by you today.”

“The groom will pay,” I said. “It’s his wedding. He should be responsible, isn’t that right?”

Mr. Jones started to protest, but I politely said, “Sorry, I have something else to attend to,” and hung up.

Then came calls to the wedding planner, florist, dessert table, photography team, one by one, same explanation.

“I’m going to the dealership to pick up a car today, so I won’t be at the wedding. Settle the balance with the groom.”

Some sounded puzzled, some surprised, some tried to probe if something had happened.

I kept my tone light, “What could go wrong? Just decided to pick up a car, a wedding gift for my brother.”

By 8:00 a.m., all the calls were done.

I sat at my desk, staring at the stack of bills. $54,000, the entirety of my savings, plus three months’ advance salary.

My phone lit up. It was a message from Gavin.

[Isabella, don’t be mad. I spoke the wrong way earlier; I apologize.]

[But today is really important… I’m begging you, okay?]

[Where are you? I’ll come find you; we can talk in person.]

I stared at the messages for a long time. Then I opened my contacts and dialed Jason Miller at the dealership.

“Mr. Miller, the Audi A4 I looked at last month, is there one in stock?”

“Yes, yes! Are you coming to see it today, Ms. Morgan?”

“No need to see it. I’ll take it. Full payment, today.” I said. “I’m coming over now.”
