The Five Years He Missed Chapter 09

The Five Years He Missed Chapter 09

## Dominic’s POV

“What did you say?!” I stood up in disbelief. Everyone around fell deathly silent. Elena sighed. “Let’s talk somewhere else, Mr. Gambino.”

I pressed my lips tight, stood first, and walked out. Elena followed behind, and soon we arrived at a quiet café. Once seated, I could barely wait before speaking. “Now you can tell me where Luca is, right? Don’t tell me he’s dead—I contacted a suitable donor five years ago!”

The server brought hot coffee. Elena’s fingertips had just brushed the warm rim when she heard those words, and she froze. The corner of her mouth curved into a mocking arc. “Is that so? What a shame. Luca didn’t make it in time.”

“How could he not have made it!” I realized I was losing control, drew a deep breath, and softened my tone. “I know you don’t want Luca to see me… but don’t joke about his life or death.”

“Do you think I would joke about Luca?” The woman before me still wore that deathly calm expression.

I was speechless. Right—Elena had always been such a devoted mother. She’d even knelt before me for Luca’s sake back then. How could she possibly lie about Luca being dead? But to accept that Luca was dead… My breath caught. Impossible! Absolutely impossible!

Elena stirred the spoon in her coffee cup and said flatly, “Luca isn’t even your biological son. Why do you care so much?”

My fingers went stiff. I lowered my head, genuine remorse leaking from my eyes. “A few days ago, the doctor who did Luca’s DNA test came to find me. She said she has a terminal illness and wanted to confess this before she goes… She forged the report.”

Elena’s eyes showed no ripple. “So?”

“It was my mother who ordered it. I truly wronged you in this matter. You have every right to be angry. But Luca is my biological son. I want to see him. You can’t stop me.”

Elena took a sip of coffee. “Fine. Go find him, then. It’s not like I’ll stop you. Your mother is dead. The entire family is under your control now. If you wanted to, I could never keep him hidden.”

I stared at Elena, stunned. I hadn’t expected this attitude from her. A nameless panic rose in my heart, and my voice sank a few degrees. “Is there nothing else you want to say to me?” I stared at her, waiting for her to pour out years of buried hurt. But she only stayed silent for a moment, then said, “Nothing. Just don’t make me lose my job, Mr. Gambino.”

“You…” I frowned, but before I could say more, my phone rang. It was Brianna. Again. I stood and walked a few steps away to answer. “You’ve gone to see that bastard and that slut again, haven’t you!” Brianna was completely unhinged. I replied casually and hung up. When I put my phone away, I caught the surprise in Elena’s eyes.

“Brianna and I—actually…” I hesitated.

“Your wife is looking for you? Hurry back. I need to get back to work, too.” Elena didn’t want to hear a single thing about Brianna.

I clenched my fists. A few seconds later, I turned and walked out.

Just as I reached the door, I stopped and looked back. “Elena—you hate me, don’t you?”

My answer was silence.
