The Fish I Couldn’t Eat At Home, The Fish He Ate With Her Chapter 06

The Fish I Couldn’t Eat At Home, The Fish He Ate With Her Chapter 06

Julian shot to his feet, unable to believe what he was seeing.

The long apology he had spent an hour writing now seemed laughable.

Vivian had blocked him.

She had really cut him off.

Julian didn’t sleep at all that night.

When Sierra woke the next morning, she found him sitting silently on the edge of the bed, his head,

buried in his hands.

His eyes were filled with confusion and frustration.

She had no idea what had happened.

Instinctively, she wrapped her arms around him, just as she had every morning for the past few

days.

“What’s wrong, Julian? What happened?”

Julian said nothing.

Then Sierra suddenly felt something warm and wet against her hand.

She turned her head.

And froze.

The man she had always thought of as strong, capable, and unafraid of anything was crying.

As for why, Sierra quickly figured it out.

She slowly released him and sat upright.

Her voice was hoarse when she asked, “Is this about Vivian?”

Julian nodded.

“She blocked me. The school’s HR department emailed me this morning. She quit her job, too. Her lawyer keeps pushing me to sign the divorce papers.

His voice cracked.

“Sierra, I think Vivian really doesn’t love me anymore. She really wants a divorce.”

Sierra pressed her lips together.

A tiny flicker of triumph hid beneath her concerned expression.

“Then what are you going to do?” she asked softly. “I could get rid of the baby. You could go win Vivian back. She loved you so much, and you’ve been together for so long. Maybe you can still fix

things.”

Julian turned sharply and grabbed Sierra’s hand.

“No. I want the baby, too.”

The delight in Sierra’s eyes deepened, though she kept her voice soft and uncertain.

“Then what are we going to do?”

Julian took a deep breath, as though he had suddenly figured everything.out.

“I promised to go to your prenatal appointment today, so I’ll go with you first.”

He paused.

“As for Vivian, we’ve had plenty of fights before. This one just got bigger than usual. She probably

went to stay with her father for a while. I’ll go pick her up later.”

Julian took Sierra to the hospital.

The entire process felt almost routine.

This wasn’t their first prenatal appointment.

But halfway through the examination, the doctor’s expression suddenly became serious.

“There appears to be an issue with the baby’s development. We’ll need a sample from the father for

genetic testing.”

Sierra froze.

“Right now?”

The doctor’s expression grew even more solemn.

“Yes. Right now.”

Both Sierra and Julian were stunned.

They hurried to the lab to have their blood drawn.

But the results came back with a bombshell.

The hospital’s bloodwork showed that Julian was not the baby’s biological father.

The news hit Julian like a bolt from the blue.

He gripped the test results so tightly that the paper crumpled in his hand.

The longer he stared at them, the darker his expression became.

Sierra was frozen, clearly just as shocked by the result.

“Listen to me, Julian. Let me explain. This isn’t what you think!”

Julian’s face was cold and unreadable.

He grabbed Sierra by the arm and marched her back to the car.

The moment they were inside, he threw the test results into her lap and slammed his foot on the

accelerator.

The car surged forward.

Sierra grabbed the handle above the door, terrified.

“Julian, slow down! You’re driving way too fast. I’m scared!”

His expression turned vicious.

“Scared? After lying to me like this, what the hell do you have to be scared of?”

“I didn’t lie!”

“You didn’t?” Julian snapped. “Are you saying the hospital’s test results are wrong?”

Sierra immediately broke down.

“No! No, they’re not!”

The car continued speeding down the packed highway, weaving recklessly through traffic.

At this rate, they were going to end up in a wreck.

Or worse.

Sierra finally couldn’t take it anymore.

“Julian, I’ll tell you! I’ll tell you everything!”

Julian’s hands tightened around the steering wheel.

Sierra was already pale with terror, tears and mucus streaking down her face as she sobbed.

“really thought the baby was yours. I swear I did. I never imagined it wouldn’t be.”

She choked on her words.

“I’ve slept with other men. A lot of them. My past isn’t clean, Julian. I’m not the innocent little girl who sold fish that you thought I was.”

The car gradually slowed.

By then, Sierra was trembling uncontrollably, crying so hard she could barely speak.

But whatever tenderness Julian had once felt for her was gone.

“Is there more?”

Sierra went still.

“Was everything else a lie, too?”

His voice was cold.

“Keep talking.”

Sierra hurried to explain.

“I really did save you. That part was true. It’s just that my identity isn’t what you thought it was.‘

Julian’s eyes narrowed.

“Then who are you?”
