The Female Hybrid Everyone Hated Chapter 10

The Female Hybrid Everyone Hated Chapter 10

Night fall came and i had regained most of my energy and healed up my wounds.

I stopped speaking entirely.

Not as a strategy. Not to frighten anyone. I simply ran out of things to say that anyone here would believe and the silence was easier than watching their faces while I tried.

They force fed me. Small amounts. Enough to keep my body from shutting down completely. I got it down and kept most of it and considered that a minor victory.

My mother came that night. She sat beside me and talked-about small things, home things, the kind of ordinary details that had nothing to do with any of this and I listened even when I couldn’t respond.

I noticed she was looking grey with exhaustion and I realized she hadn’t been sleeping either.

I had done that to her.

I hadn’t meant to. I never meant to.

That night I lay on the stone slab that passed for a bed and stared at the ceiling and thought about the height of the Hollow Tower.

Claire had not mentioned it. She didn’t need to. I had been calculating it since the first day – the window too narrow and too high initially, but they had moved me to a different room on the upper floor after the sunlight incident. This window was wider and lower but the drop below it was a long way down.

My wolf side was so suppressed by the wolfsbane that my hybrid healing had slowed to a fraction of what it should be. My vampire side was dominant but starved – I hadn’t fed and the hunger had moved past roaring into something quieter and more absolute.

At this level of weakness, at this height, with those wooden stakes embedded in the defensive barrier at the tower’s base like teeth-

I thought it might actually work.

I waited until the nurses changed shifts. The gap between one leaving and the next arriving was small barely two minutes – but I had been counting it for a while.

I was on the windowsill before the door had finished closing.

The night air hit me like a wall. Cold and clean and smelling of pine and dark earth and everything outside this tower that I had been cut off from. My vampire side surged toward it involuntarily. My weakened wolf side stirred faintly in her suppressed sleep.

I looked down.

It was a long way.

The wooden stakes at the base caught the moonlight – pale and sharp and waiting.

“Yara,” Claire said and I think this was the second time she had called my name.

“Don’t.”

“Relax…i wasn’t going to stop you,” she said quietly. “I was going to say I’m sorry. For all of it. The deal was real but the way I ran it well- A pause. “I could have been kinder..i think.”

I almost laughed.

The annoying Moon Goddess kinder?

“Now you tell me. I can’t even picture it”

“Well, find a way bitch” Claire laughed back.

I looked up at the moon one last time. Full and bright and completely indifferent as always.

Someone happened to see from below and screamed, “Someone’s trying to jump! Call the guards!”

I heard Tyson and Aldric rush upwards to stop me i guess but it was good late, they wouldn’t meet up.

“Yara, if you jump, I’ll never forgive you, I’ll destroy everything you loved at home!” Tyson shouted.

I used to love collecting artifacts. I kept them all carefully in my cabinet to admire each time.

But Tyson didn’t understand. I was a dead woman now. I didn’t care about anything anymore.

Aldric tried convincing me knowing I cared more about my mom, but unfortunately I had no choice “What about your mother? Have you thought about her?”

Mom still had Tyson. He would take care of her.

I closed my eyes and jumped and let go of the frame.

I watched my own body falling down to the ground and I must say time ran like hell.

CRASH!!

Before I knew it I landed on large sharp spikes, damn that shit hurt.

I felt my bones break. Everything in me hurts.

My vision blurred. People were screaming

My whole body from the impact tore open from the spikes and I bled badly.

This was what death felt like then. Not darkness – just distance. Like standing at the far end of a very long room looking at something that used to be you.

Before I fell I noticed Dorian happened to be passing by. When he saw me, his face twisted in horror. He ran toward me shouting.

“NO. DO NOT DIE”

They found me quickly as one of the tower guards had seen me fall.

Tyson arrived first. He dropped to his knees beside me without making a sound – just knelt there in the dirt with his hands hovering over me like he didn’t know where to touch and was afraid of making it worse His face was completely undone.

Aldric came running seconds behind him. He was already casting before he reached me — diagnostic spells stabilizing spells, everything in his considerable arsenal thrown at a body that had fallen from the top of the Hollow Tower onto wooden stakes in direct sunlight while suppressed by wolfsbane.

I watched him work and thought – distantly, from wherever I was — that this was the most emotion I had ever seen on his face. He was furious. Terrified. Both at once, barely contained, his hands moving with absolute precision while everything behind his eyes screamed.

They got me stable but barely.

They moved me to the lower cell.

Before this, I thought death would be easy.

I was wrong. It was hard.

Three floors. It didn’t kill me. Just broke my legs and ribs.

Tyson was furious. He immediately called a Mental Asylum to have me committed.

Aldric agreed. He said I was beyond help.

Dopian just looked at me with disappointment. “Yara, you’ve lost your mind.”

Same as always. Disgust. Contempt.

Tears slid down my cheeks. I didn’t have the strength to defend myself.

Mom came in. When she saw me like that, she started shaking and crying, asking me why. Then she fainted. They had to resuscitate her.

I wanted to go to her. Tyson wouldn’t let me.

For the next few days, they took turns watching me. They didn’t speak to me. They just forced me to eat.

I managed to get a little down. It kept me alive.

As soon as I was stable enough, they transferred me to the Mental Asylum.

I knew that once I was inside, I’d never be able to kill myself again.

For the first time in days, I spoke.

I was lying in bed. I grabbed Tyson’s sleeve and begged him: “Brother, I’m not crazy. Please don’t send me there.”

For a second, something flickered in his eyes. I knew he still cared about me. His familial love value had once been as high as eighty percent.

I thought maybe, just maybe, he’d have mercy.

Then he said: “No one who’s insane ever admits it.”

“We’re doing this for your own good.”

They locked me in a ten-by-ten room. Nothing but a bed.

Every day, a nurse brought me food. Four more nurses watched me at all times.

They just stared at me. No one spoke.

I was losing my mind. I wanted to die, but there was no way to do it.

I’d never felt such despair.

I begged the Moon Goddess to just end me and she finally gave a reply.

But it not the kind of one I wanted though.
